TempoTec is bringing flagship-level audio technology to a more accessible price point with the launch of the Sonata BHD ULTRA, a compact USB DAC and headphone amplifier designed for music enthusiasts who want to get more from their favourite headphones and high-resolution audio collections. Featuring four premium Cirrus Logic CS43198 DAC chips, powerful balanced output, an integrated colour display and extensive sound customisation options, this new portable audio companion makes a compelling first impression. To celebrate its arrival, TempoTec is offering the Sonata BHD ULTRA for just $69 instead of its regular $99 price, with an additional magnetic back clip gift available for the first 200 orders placed during the launch promotion.
Quad CS43198 DAC Architecture for Premium Audio Performance
What makes the Sonata BHD ULTRA particularly interesting is its sophisticated audio architecture. Rather than relying on a conventional single- or dual-chip configuration, TempoTec has equipped this compact device with four flagship CS43198 DAC chips, assigning dedicated conversion resources to the individual signal branches of its balanced audio circuit. This approach is designed to improve channel separation, preserve fine musical details and deliver a more precise stereo presentation.
TempoTec also integrates its FDAS technology, FPGA-based digital processing and precision oscillators to maintain accurate signal timing and minimise jitter. The manufacturer specifies an impressive 131dB signal-to-noise ratio and exceptionally low distortion, reflecting the engineering ambitions behind this portable solution. For listeners who appreciate nuanced vocals, well-defined instruments and complex recordings, the hardware offers an appealing foundation for high-fidelity listening.
Powerful Output and Extensive Sound Customisation
Despite its pocket-friendly dimensions, the Sonata BHD ULTRA is designed to deliver substantial headphone-driving capability. Its 4.4mm balanced connection offers up to 325mW per channel in high-gain mode, while the 3.5mm single-ended connection provides additional flexibility for different headphones and earphones. This makes the device suitable for a variety of listening preferences, whether enjoying sensitive in-ear monitors or more demanding wired headphones.
Another welcome feature is the ability to personalise the listening experience directly through selectable digital filters, EQ adjustments and gain settings. The integrated 0.96-inch TFT colour display provides convenient access to playback information and device settings, while dedicated physical controls make adjustments straightforward. It is a practical combination that allows users to fine-tune their sound without constantly navigating smartphone menus.
Hi-Res Audio Support and Everyday Versatility
The Sonata BHD ULTRA is also prepared for demanding high-resolution audio libraries, supporting native PCM playback up to 32-bit/768kHz and DSD512. These capabilities make it an attractive option for enthusiasts exploring lossless music services, high-quality local recordings and dedicated audiophile playback applications.
Connectivity is another important advantage. Designed to work with compatible Android and iOS devices, tablets, computers and digital audio players, the Sonata BHD ULTRA can move easily between a mobile listening setup and a desktop workstation. Whether enjoying music during a commute, watching films on a laptop or spending an evening exploring a favourite album, its portable form factor and flexible connections are designed to make high-quality wired audio more convenient.
Special Launch Offer: Save $30 and Get a Free Gift
To mark the introduction of its new portable DAC, TempoTec has announced a limited-time promotional price of $69, reduced from the regular $99, representing a saving of approximately 30%. The promotion runs from October 22 through October 31, 2026, giving audio enthusiasts an opportunity to explore the new model at a particularly attractive introductory price.
TempoTec is also offering a free magnetic back clip, valued at $19.90, making it easier to carry and position the DAC alongside a compatible mobile setup. Importantly, while the $69 promotional price applies to all orders placed during the launch period, the complimentary magnetic back clip is reserved exclusively for the first 200 orders. Customers interested in securing the accessory should therefore take advantage of the promotion early.
Final Thoughts
The TempoTec Sonata BHD ULTRA arrives with an unusually ambitious specification package for its introductory price, combining a quad-DAC architecture, substantial balanced output power, high-resolution format support and convenient on-device sound controls. Its compact design and broad device compatibility further strengthen its appeal for listeners looking to upgrade their everyday wired audio experience.
At just $69 during the launch campaign, the Sonata BHD ULTRA looks particularly interesting for anyone considering a portable DAC and headphone amplifier without making a major investment. The additional magnetic back clip makes the first 200 orders even more attractive, adding an extra incentive to explore TempoTec’s latest audio release before the promotional period ends.
