Astro Slide 5G smartphone with keyboard powered by MediaTek Dimensity
Planet Computers, who previously launched the Gemini PDA powered by MediaTek Helio X27, and the Cosmo Communicator powered by MediaTek Helio P70, has now announced its latest Astro Slide powered by MediaTek Dimensity 1000.
Targeting productivity-focused users, the 6.53-inch 2-in-1 smartphone can slide upwards to reveal a backlit keyboard underneath; its tactile keys offering a laptop-like typing experience. This ‘RockUp™ hinge slider mechanism’ has been designed by Martin Riddiford, the original inventor of the clamshell mobile device.
Since its crowdfunding announcement the Astro Slide has smashed its goal, and it’s hardly surprising given the flagship spec and true uniqueness of a design that blends smartphone and ultra-portable laptop in a convenient 5G-enabled device.
This productivity workhorse is powered by the flagship MediaTek Dimensity 1000, with its 4x Arm Cortex-A77 performance cores operating up to 2.6 GHz within the octa-core CPU, plus 9X flagship-grade Mali-G77 graphics cores, the MediaTek APU 3.0 4.5 TOPS AI processor and fully-featured, integrated 5G modem that supports global 5G services, Carrier Aggregation and peak speeds of 4.7Gbps.
On the Dimensity 1000, Planet Computers states: We are fully embracing the power of 5G and Wi-Fi 6, and we decided to go “all in” – we opted for the fastest 5G processor available, providing the ultimate 5G experience on the Astro.
In addition, the Astro Slide features a 3.5mm audio jack, two USB-C ports, NFC, 48MP camera, wireless charging, fingerprint sensor and a generous 4,000mAh battery. Planet Computers is adding a dual boot option of either Android or Linux OS, allowing users to choose their preferred platform for work or play.
