As mentioned earlier, the DC-Tonfa features a precisely crafted R2R DAC architecture. It moves away from the typical Delta-Sigma designs and features an advanced 24-Bit 8-Channel fully balanced R2R architecture. This isn’t just another R2R implementation, iBasso has packed an astounding setup featuring 312 ultra-low temperature drift viking metal film resistors into this compact chassis. It is supported by a specialized 60-resistor hardware compensation network. This results in exceptional detail retrieval, organically rich tonality, and ultra-low distortion reduced to an absolute minimum.
To manage this complex discrete network, the DC-Tonfa utilizes iBasso’s proprietary FPGA algorithms alongside dual Accusilicon femtosecond crystal oscillators, ensuring a pristine, jitter-free presentation. Audiophiles will also appreciate the inclusion of a dedicated NOS (Non-Oversampling) mode alongside four custom digital filters to fine-tune the listening experience. A great DAC always require a great amp section to deliver great sonic presentation. iBasso has poured its legacy of premium digital audio players directly into the DC-Tonfa’s amplification stage.
It features 2 high-performance Texas Instruments dual OPAMPs and 4 BUF634A buffers. Don’t get fooled by its compact design, the DC-Tonfa produces a strong output reaching a staggering thrust of 800mW per channel at 32Ω. It offers supreme bass control even for the demanding headphones and IEMs. Additionally, A Linear Technology LT3042 LDO regulator ensures a jet-black background with a noise floor as low as 0.8μV.
iBasso has crafted the DC-Tonfa with great excellence as well. The DAC/AMP features a rigid chassis crafted using premium-quality aluminium alloy material. It features tempered glass panels on the front and back, and also includes a 0.96” OLED display screen. For easy menu control and volume adjustment, it features a multi-function rotary wheel.
iBasso has featured both 4.4mm balanced and 3.5mm single-ended ports on the DC-Tonfa. The 3.5mm port also provides digital optical SPDIF output for versatile connectivity with other devices.
