Meizu 16s officially announced
Besides Huawei and Xiaomi, the devices from the Chinese manufacturer Meizu are also popular with many users. Meizu also offers smartphones with good equipment at a fair price and can score points with them. Now they have announced with the Meizu 16s his new smartphone flagship.
This offers a 6.2-inch FullHD + display, the Snapdragon 855 Octacore processor and up to 8 GB of RAM. The main sensor of the rear-view camera offers 48 MP and the built-in fingerprint sensor is located under the display.
Meizu 16s refuses the notch
This honor must go back to the Meizu 16s, which must be announced by the end of the month but has again and again appeared on the run before that. According to Gizmochina, a representative of the brand has decided to preview a rendering of their future device. And we can see that the trend observed on its more accessible models would be particularly refined on its most expensive model. The Meizu 16s would succeed in offering a design called “borderless” without doing as the Galaxy S10 and integrate a punch, the future OnePlus 7 that would hide its sensor in a motorized outgrowth, or even the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 that made the return slider for that. No need for all this since its front photo sensor seems well integrated in a very thin border on the top of the screen. Be careful however: the press reports can sometimes be misleading, it will be necessary to wait to see the device in flesh and bone to make sure.
High features
Regarding its technical data sheet, the previous leaks concerning the Meizu 16s confirmed that it was a premium model: 6.2-inch AMOLED Full HD + screen, Snapdragon 855 and 8 GB of RAM are expected for this smartphone, bonus of a Sony sensor of 48 megapixels with a second sensor of 20 megapixels in support. We could expect that, and it is very attractive. However, the main problem of Meizu smartphones has never been their technical data sheet, but their software experience: expected Android 9 Pie with Flyme OS interface, it is the latter that may spoil the party.
Current hardware
The backing is Qualcomm’s current Snapdragon 855, which can be found in Samsung’s Galaxy S10, among others. It is complemented from 6 to 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of onboard storage (UFS 2.1). Samsung’s AMOLED screen delivers a resolution of 2,232 x 1,080 pixels on a diagonal of 6.2 inches. The case measures 159 x 73.4 x 7.6 millimeters (165 grams of weight) and consists of the usual aluminum glass combination. In terms of design, you stay true to the predecessor and its rounded corners and the notch-free screen. However, one deviates from the almost complete symmetry of the Meizu 16 and has moved the camera module from the center to the corner.
Improved camera with new night mode
The focus is also on that recording module. The dual-camera system. There is a 48 MP Sony IMX586 sensor, as well as a 20-megapixel IMX350 sensor and Meizu’s typically ring-shaped LED flash. Also on board is optical image stabilization, which is also used in 4K video recordings. The front camera (Samsung S3T2) also operates with 20 megapixels and also dominates HDR +. It is designed to provide reliable facial recognition.
An image processing algorithm and an AI from the US company Arcsoft are responsible for optimizing the images. Also integrated was a “Dual Super Night Mode ” for particularly clear night shots. This is also to be submitted by firmware update for numerous models in recent years.
Important frequencies supported
The non-disruptive Inplay fingerprint reader also gets an upgrade. There is also an NFC module that can also be used for contactless numbers. However, you have to say goodbye to the 3.5mm plug for headphones that has been painted. The fast-charging battery grows from 3,010 to 3,600 mAh. However, wireless charging is not supported.
Important for international interested parties: The global version of the mobile phone supports all important 3G and LTE tapes, including band 20. Two SIM cards can still be plugged in. Sound is emitted in stereo – by earbud and over the speaker on the back.
Pre-installed is Android 9 in its own flavor Flyme 7.3, which is based on Apple’s iOS. An underlying AI, OneMind 3.0, is designed to help conserve energy and speed up appstarts. The “Hyper Gaming ” mode is designed to provide targeted games with more resources.
Available soon
In China, the Meizu 16s can already be pre-ordered, with shipping due to start on April 28. The variant with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage costs 3,200 yuan (around 423 euros), the version with 8GB of RAM comes to 3,500 yuan (about 463 euros). The 8/256 GB model reserved for the Chinese market is offered by 4,000 yuan (about 529 euros).
Prices and availability of the global models have not yet been revealed. The Meizu 16 was included in the 8/128 GB variant in the own store for around 440 euros, with no customs costs incurred in the import via England, which was organised by the manufacturer himself.
In addition to the mobile phone, a number of new accessories were also presented.
