Moondrop Chu 3 is Finally Here
Moondrop has equipped the Chu 3 with a custom-developed 10mm high-performance dynamic driver unit. The star of the show here is its composite diaphragm made up of aerospace-grade aluminium-magnesium (Al-Mg) alloy dome material. This material is often reserved for significantly high-tier IEMs, it is extremely thin yet highly rigid. By utilizing this ultra-lightweight profile alongside a dual-polymer suspension system, the Chu 3 achieves near-instantaneous transient responses, vastly reduced nonlinear distortion, and a punchy, authoritative lower end.
To properly harness the power of the new Al-Mg driver, Moondrop has completely overhauled the internal acoustic architecture on the pair. The Chu 3 employs a strong N52 neodymium magnetic circuit paired with an ultra-lightweight CCAW voice coil, generating a massive magnetic flux of over 1.5T. Further refining the sound is a precision-engineered, CNC-machined independent brass acoustic nozzle. The high density of the brass material actively controls treble standing waves, ensuring a smooth, fatigue-free upper-frequency response while maintaining structural acoustic accuracy.
Tuning is where Moondrop traditionally shines, and the Chu 3 is no exception. The pair has been scientifically adjusted to closely follow the Pop AVG-DF(JM-1) HRTF target curve. The result is a highly capable IEM boasting ultra-low distortion (THD ≤0.1% @ 1kHz). Listeners can expect exceptional three-dimensional imaging, a natural, captivating timbre, and brilliant treble extension without the harshness often found in budget single-DD sets.
Visually, the Chu 3 retains the universally loved ultra-small, bean-shaped ergonomic footprint that makes the series so comfortable. However, the cavities are now expertly crafted using advanced alloy casting technology, resulting in a high-density Zinc-Alloy shell. Available in Silver and Black, the earpieces offer immense rigidity, a premium tactile finish, and excellent corrosion resistance. Moondrop Chu 3 features a swappable cable system with universal 0.78mm 2-pin connectors. Users can swap out the stock cable for wireless ear hooks or upgrade cables. Moondrop Chu 3 marks the latest generation of one of the most successful products in Moondrop’s lineup. We can notice that Moondrop has completely overhauled the set, from a new cavity to a brand new dynamic driver that promises impressive upgrades in performance.
