Next-Gen Chargers of AUKEY Make a Splash @ CES 2020
As charging specialists, AUKEY is always operating at the cutting-edge of what is possible in charging tech. Following on from in-house innovations like Dynamic Detect, AUKEY has now unveiled OmniaChip, a brand-new integrated circuit co-developed with chip specialist Navitas that brings unprecedented power density to charging hardware.

This chip is debuting in the new Omnia series of PD chargers, which were shown off to the world‘s media at CES this week. Wall chargers may not create the same sort of excitement as some of the more exotic tech on display at CES, but our latest line of chargers managed to generate a good degree of interest in the tech press, including articles from the likes of ZDNet, Android Central, and MacRumors. Observers were particularly impressed by the compact size of the Omnia chargers in relation to the high power output they provide.
This eye-catching size-to-power ratio is possible due to the OmniaChip‘s use of gallium nitride in place of silicon. Navitas pioneered the use of this material in chargers with their GaNFast solution, and now that know-how is combined with AUKEY‘s well-honed expertise in creating practical charging tech.
Gallium nitride is superior to silicon is almost every way. It is able to conduct electrons more than 1000 times more efficiently, allowing for massive reductions in size and weight and a significant increase in power density. While the benefits of smart charging solutions like Dynamic Detect are sometimes complex to explain, the benefit of smaller, lighter, and more powerful chargers is easy for anyone to appreciate.
The new Omnia series of PD chargers equipped with OmniaChip technology are all powerful enough to charge laptops as well as phones, with power output ranging from 61W to 100W (for reference, the MacBook Air has a 30W charger, while the latest 16-inch MacBook Pro has a 96W charger).
In the past, high-spec laptops needed massive power bricks that weighed almost as much as the laptop itself. With the help of GaN and OmniaChip, now even top-of-the-range laptops can be powered from a charger that fits easily into your pocket. The upcoming Omnia 100W charger is 44% smaller than Apple‘s 96W MacBook charger, and some of the chargers in the series are fully 66% smaller than the Apple equivalent. That‘s the kind of size reduction that really makes a difference.
The Omnia series will include chargers across a range of port layouts and power outputs to suit a variety of uses. As with our current series of PD chargers, models with more than one port will be equipped with Dynamic Detect technology, ensuring the power is distributed efficiently.
The new Omnia series chargers are expected to be released in Q2 2020, and there are further charging advancements being worked at AUKEY, so watch this space for more exciting charging tech coming soon!
