Nokia 4.2 in check: Android One, camera, technology, price
At MWC 2019, HMD Global has announced a new series of smartphones: the Nokia 4 Series. The first model is the Nokia 4.2 for less than 200 euros. Does the first impression convince?
The Nokia 4.2 costs less than a third of the new top model Nokia 9, looks for the price range below 200 euros yet relatively noble and high quality. It is handy, can still be operated with one hand. The case is made of glass both front and back, inside a metal chassis provides a solid construction. In the practice test, nothing creaked or wobbled. The 5.7-inch display is just as rounded at the edge as the case back, so it feels very comfortable. The screen (LCD) makes a good impression in terms of color, contrast and lateral viewing angle stability, the sharpness is just acceptable at 295 pixels per inch (1520×720 pixels). Thanks to the front camera hidden in the display, the frames are not too thick and the design looks modern. The recess for the camera (Notch) is kept very small, so bothers little. On the back there is a fingerprint sensor. The dimensions: 149×71 mm. The weight: 161 grams.
Nokia 4.2: dual camera, Snapdragon CPU
In addition to the normal, f2.2 with slightly faint camera (13 megapixels, autofocus) installed HMD still a second 2-megapixel camera, which should help create atmospheric depth of field effects. In low light, the camera app automatically shoots multiple images simultaneously and calculates a single image, which according to HMD with increased brightness and less noise should score (“Low light image Fusion”). Front is an 8-megapixel camera without autofocus installed. Qualcomm’s 439 Snapdragon Processor delivers decent work speed. The Nokia 4.2 comes with 32 GB of internal memory and 3 GB of RAM, alternatively, in some regions also a slightly scarce version with 16 GB (2 GB RAM) is offered. Important for paying by mobile phone: NFC is installed. The battery capacity is 3,000 mAh, the micro USB socket does not allow fast charging. WLAN is only possible on 2.4 GHz, WLAN-ac is missing. Bluetoth headphones with pptx are supported. LTE is possible up to 150 Mbps. An FM radio is installed.
Nokia 4.2: A custom button for the Google Assistant
The Nokia 4.2 is the first smartphone with a special Google Assistant button on the side: So you can start the Google Assistant at any time by pressing a button, double pressing provides a visual overview of the day. If you press the button for a long time, you can speak voice commands in the meantime. Clever: With notifications, an LED light pulsates in the power button.
Nokia 4.2: price, colors, release
The Nokia 4.2 is in Germany from April 2019 in the trade, the recommended retail price is 199 euros, but the market price is likely to be significantly lower. It comes in two colors: black and pink sand.
