OPPO & Ericsson: Taking 5G Network Slicing to the Next Level
OPPO and Ericsson are teaming up to bring smarter, more seamless connectivity to users through 5G network slicing. The ongoing collaboration focuses on using network slicing technology to optimize mobile connections for specific demanding scenarios—whether it’s gaming, streaming, or staying connected during live events.
Network slicing is a groundbreaking technology that enables operators to create multiple virtual networks—or “slices”—within a single physical network. Each slice is customized to meet specific requirements, such as ultra-low latency for gaming, high bandwidth for video streaming, or enhanced reliability for critical applications. This allows users to enjoy optimized connectivity tailored to their activities without switching devices or networks.
In addition to ongoing joint research on network slicing, OPPO has already deployed its proprietary AI LinkBoost technology. It enhances connectivity in weak signal areas through intelligent antenna design and AI-driven network selection, reducing call drops and improving video call quality. This ensures users stay connected seamlessly during critical moments like concerts or sports events.
OPPO and Ericsson have formed a strong partnership since 2018, collaborating on 5G testing, device and network integration, and innovation. They established a 5G joint lab in Shenzhen in 2019 to accelerate research and deployment, worked together on pioneering 5G network slicing and standalone network rollouts with leading carriers, and signed a global patent cross-licensing agreement in 2024. Combining OPPO’s device expertise with Ericsson’s network leadership, they continue driving smarter, faster, and more user-focused 5G connectivity worldwide.
