Notch-less displays, pop-up cameras and gradient backs
That’s right: all-screen displays, pop-up cameras and gradient colors seem to be all the rage this season — and it’s not that we are complaining. To make our point, behold the two phones from different manufacturers that look impressively alike.
The Vivo V15 Pro sports a 6.39-inch Ultra Full View AMOLED display with 2340×1080 resolution and you get the full screen experience thanks to the pop-up front cam that is hidden inside the phone and appears on demand. On the back, there is a vertical black strip that sports triple rear cameras. The back panel come in dual tone gradient color and there is a fingerprint sensor hidden inside the display. The one thing that about the phone that is not in keeping with the latest trends is that it keeps the 3.5mm headphone jack.
The Oppo F11 Pro comes with an even bigger 6.53 inch Full HD+LCD display. The phone is all-display on the front because of (you’ve guessed it) a pop-up front camera mechanism that is almost identical to that of the Vivo V15 Pro. You will also see a vertical strip on the back of the phone housing its two cameras. The F11 Pro also goes for the trendy gradient look mixing three colors into a beautiful tone that slowly transitions between different levels of color intensity. The phone is available in two color options: Thunder Black and Aurora Green.
What’s different is the fingerprint sensor that sits on the back of the phone — compared to the more sophisticated in-display option on the Vivo V15 Pro.
Strong processors and good battery life
The Vivo V15 Pro is meant to be a more upscale version of the standard Vivo V15 — and that is reflected in the choice of the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 675 processor paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The OPPO F11 Pro runs on the Mediatek Helio P70 chipset (incorporating a powerful Arm Cortex-A73/A53 octa-core CPU complex with an impressive Arm Mali-G72 class GPU) that is paired with 4GB or 6GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of storage.
Both smartphones allow for an expansion of storage space on an SD card with up to 256GB. The V15 Pro packs a decent 3,700mAh battery enhanced by Vivo’s Dual-Engine Fast Charging. According to the company, this will let you top up the battery to up to 24% in just 15 minutes. The battery capacity on the Oppo F11 Pro is 4,000mAh. The phone supports VOOC Flash Charge 3.0, which claims to be 20 minutes quicker than its predecessor to charge the battery to 100%.
48MP sensors and sliding selfie cams
One of the main highlights on both smartphones is the camera game. The Vivo V15 Pro features an impressive triple camera setup with a 48MP primary sensor, a 5MP depth sensor and an 8MP super wide sensor. The camera is also said to come with improved AI algorithms as well as fun tools like AI Portrait Lighting and AI Body Shaping and tools like AI Portrait Lighting.
The Oppo F11 Pro also sports a 48MP sensor at the rear — this is actually the same 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor featured on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro. The main sensor is complemented by a 5MP depth sensing unit. On the front, both phones use a pop-up mechanism to bring up their selfie cams — but the cameras themselves are different. The Oppo F11 Pro comes with a 16MP front cam while you will find a higher resolution 32MP cam on the Vivo V15 Pro.
As it often is with new designs, some concerns have been voiced regarding the pop-up selfie camera setup. There are questions concerning the durability of the mechanism and whether adding more moving parts to the design would make the phones more vulnerable to damage. But this is something that only time will tell.
Price and verdict
The Vivo V15 Pro was released in India earlier this week with the price tag of just over $400 while the OPPO F11 Pro is available for a bit above $350 for the 6GB of RAM + 64GB of ROM option. As you can see, there is not much difference in affordability either and it does seem that we are witnessing another case of two smartphones that have more things in common than they do differences. With that, the Vivo V15 Pro does seem to be a more interesting version of the two thanks to the triple cameras and an in-display fingerprint sensor.
