Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM), helps bring a new level of immersive VR experiences to consumers today with the launch of Oculus Quest powered by Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 835 Mobile VR Platform.

The Snapdragon Platform meets the intense demands for a premium mobile VR experience. Oculus Quest taps into an industry-leading heterogeneous chip architecture to power high concurrency workloads including graphics processing, video decoding and encoding, and inside-out sensor tracking powered by the Oculus Insight computer vision algorithm. Oculus Quest makes use of incremental features like foveated rendering for high-quality and multiview graphics, high-resolution display and more.

“We worked closely with the Oculus engineering team to build upon the Snapdragon 835 feature set and optimize the platform to help deliver a unique, rich immersive gaming experience,” said Hugo Swart, head of XR, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “The joint efforts between Oculus and Qualcomm Technologies deliver a completely wire-free, intuitive VR experience for consumers that has the potential to enrich lives and propel mass VR adoption. We look forward to the continuous collaboration with Oculus to make XR the next mobile compute platform and transform the world we live in.”

Oculus Quest is the first all-in-one VR gaming system from Oculus that delivers a fully untethered experience. It uses Oculus Insight sensor technology and Oculus Touch controllers to translate your movements into VR with high accuracy and low latency, so you can feel fully immersed in the game. By removing cables and external tracking sensors, Oculus Quest lets you set up a play space with ease almost anywhere for a game changing, immersive experience.

“Oculus Quest ushers in the next era of VR gaming and we are thrilled to get it into consumers’ hands starting today,” said Hugo Barra, vice president, AR/VR Partnerships, Facebook. “In collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies, Oculus Quest gives you an easy way to jump right into the action—with no PC, no wires, and no external sensors. The Snapdragon Platform brings high performance with low power and integrated platform solutions, while our innovative Oculus Insight system uses four ultra-wide-angle sensors and computer vision algorithms to give you a greater sense of presence and mobility. These combine to make a powerful product that’s incredibly easy to use. VR is going to improve the way people work, play, and connect with each other, and we’re excited to take the next step forward with Oculus Quest.”
