SmallRig x Potato Jet TRIBEX SE: The 1-Second Setup Revolution
In the world of professional cinematography and content creation, time is more than just money—it’s the difference between catching the perfect “Golden Hour” light or watching it fade away while you’re still fumbling with tripod legs. SmallRig has teamed up with legendary camera gear guru Potato Jet (Gene Nagata) to release the TRIBEX SE Hydraulic Tripod, a piece of kit designed specifically to eliminate the friction between “arriving on location” and “hitting record.”
The “One-Key” Revolution: Leveling in an Instant
The standout feature of the TRIBEX SE is the Patented One-Key Deployment system. Traditional tripods require you to adjust three individual leg locks, often multiple times, to find a level plane on uneven ground. Whether you are perched on coastal rocks, shifting desert dunes, or a steep flight of stairs, the TRIBEX SE allows you to deploy and level your entire rig instantly. Data suggests that while a standard tripod takes upwards of 16 seconds to level, the TRIBEX SE does it in just 1 second.
Built for Agility, Engineered for Precision
The “SE” version is a powerhouse of portability and strength:
– Max Height: 166cm (approx. 65 inches), providing plenty of eye-level versatility.
– Payload Capacity: Supports up to 6kg (13.2 lbs), making it the perfect match for modern mirrorless setups (like the Sony A7S III or Lumix GH7) or compact cinema rigs (like the FX6 or RED Komodo).
– Carbon Fiber Construction: Uses high-quality carbon fiber for the legs to ensure the tripod remains lightweight for travel without sacrificing “rock-solid” stability.
Integrated Hydraulic Fluid Head
Stability is nothing without smooth movement. The TRIBEX SE comes equipped with an Integrated Hydraulic Fluid Head. This ensures that your pans and tilts are buttery smooth, providing that professional “big-budget” look even when you’re a crew of one. The hydraulic damping is tuned for precision, allowing for micro-adjustments that stay put once you’ve framed your shot.
Why This Matters for “On-Location” Production
Commercial crews and solo creators alike know the struggle of “chasing the light.” The TRIBEX SE is marketed under the mantra “Rig for Agility. Adapt in an Instant.” By shaving minutes off every setup throughout the day, this tripod effectively gives you more time to focus on your creative vision rather than your hardware.
Final Thoughts
The SmallRig x Potato Jet TRIBEX SE isn’t just another tripod; it’s a workflow upgrade. If you’re tired of individual leg locks and want a tripod that reacts as fast as you do, this is the rig to get.
