Smartphone games such as Pokémon GO or PUBG Mobile are becoming increasingly popular. So it’s no wonder that the demand for gaming smartphones is growing. But which mobile phone is best suited for gambling and what should I pay attention to when buying? You may find the answer in this article.

The best gaming smartphones

The smartphone has made numerous devices superfluous in recent years, for example navigation systems and compact cameras are now only a niche market. The next “victim” of mobile phones could be portable game consoles such as the Nintendo 3DS or the PS Vita. For many young people and adults, the smartphone is already the first choice when it comes to gaming. In a survey conducted by the industry association Bitkom in 2017, 74 percent of respondents named the mobile phone as their preferred gaming platform. The classic gaming PC (52 percent), consoles such as PS4 and Xbox One (71 percent) and handhelds such as 3DS (26 percent) rank behind them. But on which smartphone does it play best? To answer this question, however, we must first define what we mean by mobile gaming.

Casual Games versus PUBG Mobile
Mobile games can be roughly divided into two categories: Casual games and more sophisticated titles almost in console quality. The majority of mobile games fall into the first category and that’s good news! Because games like Super Mario Run, Clash Royale or Harry Potter Hogwards Mystery don’t place high demands on your smartphone. They can even run on inexpensive devices between 150 and 200 euros. If you want to make sure that AR titles like Pokémon GO also run, you should only make sure that the smartphone of your choice has a gyroscope.

The situation is different with the second category. Console-like titles such as PUBG Mobile, FIFA Mobile or Asphalt 9 place significantly higher demands on mobile phones. They can also be made to run on inexpensive devices such as the Motorola G7. But then you often have to switch off graphical effects, lower the resolution or live with jerks. This is of course unacceptable for real professional gamblers. If you want to play these titles in high quality on your smartphone, you’ll have to dig deeper into your pocket.

Things you should consider when buying a gaming mobile phones
In this case, you should calculate between 500 and 1,000 euros for the purchase of a new smartphone. Only current top smartphones from the last twelve months offer the same performance. But which model is the fastest? The iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max are beyond all doubt. Both are powered by the new Apple A13 Bionic processor, which outperforms Android in many benchmarks. The same applies to the older iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max models. If you don’t want an Apple smartphone, you are spoilt for choice between a multitude of Android smartphones.

Processor
The majority of these are powered by the Snapdragon 855 or Snapdragon 855 Plus Qualcomm chip, with the exception of Samsung and Huawei devices, which rely on their own processors. Even though the “engine” of Android smartphones is often the same, benchmark comparisons show clear differences in performance. This should be mainly due to the Android version used. This is because the manufacturers adapt Google’s mobile phone OS to different degrees and make specific optimizations in the process.

Memory
In addition to the processor, the size of the smartphone’s RAM is also important for performance. While 4GB of RAM in a smartphone are more than enough for everyday use, complex games such as Fortnite require more memory. Your gaming smartphone should already have 6GB of RAM or 8GB RAM in order to guarantee untroubled gaming fun in the coming months. Equally important is a large device memory. Because if you want to keep an extensive games library on your mobile phone, you need space. Blockbuster games like PUBG Mobile quickly swallow several gigabytes of memory. 64GB are the minimum here, 128GB of device memory are better. Although the memory of many devices can be subsequently expanded with a microSD card, this also slows down the system.

Display
The display serves not only as a display when playing on the smartphone, but often also as a control element. Therefore, you should make sure that the display is as large as possible, with room for virtual controls. We therefore recommend a device with a screen diagonal between 5.5 and 6 inches. The resolution of the screen should be at least 1,920 x 1,080 pixels (Full HD), otherwise the display is blurred. A higher resolution only makes sense if you want to use your smartphone as a display for VR glasses. The most popular systems on the market are Google DayDream View and Samsung’s Gear VR. Unfortunately, only a few (Android) devices are compatible with the systems, iPhone users still have to do without this experience completely. In addition, some smartphones like OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7T also offer 90Hz screen refresh rate, and the ASUS ROG Phone 2 even offers 120Hz screen refresh rate. The high screen refresh rate will bring you smooth and high quality gaming experience.

Battery capacity
Mobile gaming takes up a lot of your smartphone’s battery power. You should therefore pay attention to a sufficiently high battery capacity. Usually, it is better if the phone’s battery is above 4000mAh. The popularity of mobile gaming has of course not escaped the smartphone industry. In the face of declining sales figures and saturated markets, the industry is looking for niches to open up. Gaming could be such a niche, as numerous mobile phones have been announced in recent months that have been specially developed for gamers, such as the ASUS ROG Phone or the Xiaomi Black Shark.
