Top HandBrake Alternative DVD/Video Converter from WinXDVD
Nowadays it is very common to use tools to decode DVDs and transcode videos. HandBrake is very popular DVD copying and video conversion software, to the point that 90% of people made their first DVD ripping or video conversion using that program. However, popularity doesn´t save HandBrake from suffering from serious defects, such as an intuitive configuration, unexpected errors, slow coding, among others. Today we will talk about these defects and the best existing alternatives to replace HandBrake.
What can we do with HandBrake?
a) Copy homemade DVDs
b) Copy encrypted DVDs: can HandBrake copy protected DVDs? Normally HandBrake cannot evade copy protection, but fortunately if we use the libdvdcss freeware library in HandBrake we can decode some encrypted DVD types.
c) Convert a video file to the quality you want, add subtitles and much more.
d) Compress 4K / HD video without much loss of quality
e) Make some minor editions: in the graphic interface of HandBrake we can cut, flip, rotate videos, and add subtitles, among others. With the CLI interface we can do even more, but it´s understandable that for beginners it is strange to use command lines to trim and flip videos.
HandBrake Problems
a) Crash / unexpected freezing: it is very common to see cases of users who installed HandBrake but couldn´t convert anything. For example, HandBrake cannot scan original video files, the message “An unknown error occurred” appears; or HandBrake crashes on startup, etc.
b) Very slow speed and acceleration of GPU HEVC: HandBrake slow coding has affected many users. This applies especially when 4K HEVC files are being encoded, since Nvidia NVENC (H.265) or Intel QSV (H.265) options are generally not available, although the latest HandBrake included several hardware encoders and decoders, such as Nvidia NVENC, Intel QSV and AMD VCE.
c) The size of the output file is larger than the input: this happens sometimes in HandBrake, especially when you enable hardware acceleration or choose a wrong quality setting.
d) The command line editing doesn´t work: it´s almost common that this feature doesn´t work. As a video transcoder, HandBrake doesn´t offer many options in video editing.
e) Video audio not synchronized, and even without audio: the audio problem is also a frequent error in HandBrake. There are times when audio is damaged or audio and video are not synchronized after conversion with HandBrake.
Obviously we would prefer a better and easier to use alternative.
