Following the success of the Pocophone F1, the Pocophone F2 has everyone talking about way ahead the date of its release. There are rumours and speculations regarding the Pocophone F2’s design, specifications, price — and more. Find out the latest news about the Pocophone F2 as well as the latest updates about what the phone will offer in this article
Modern design with a waterdrop notch
From what we’ve seen on the leaked prototype images, the new Pocophone F2 gets several upgrades in its design compared to the previous model, the Pocophone F1. The new phone comes with a smaller waterdrop notch, which allows for a more expansive unobstructed view of the display. The screen, for that matter, is also rumoured to be bigger.
The exact dimensions of the phone or the colors in which it will be available are not yet known. But it is suggested that the phone’s main build features will be in line with those of budget smartphones.
Leaked specs and forecasts
As there have been no official updates regarding the Xiaomi Pocophone F2 from Xiaomi themselves, everything we are discussing in this review is based on rumours and leaks. Luckily, there is not shortage of these. First, let’s try to sum up the Pocophone F2’s rumoured specs.
|Display||6.4 inch display with Full HD+ resolution|
|Rear camera||Triple camera with a 48MP primary lens|
|Charging||Usb Type C + Qualcomm Quick Charge 4 support|
The rumours have it that the Pocophone F2 will come with a 6.4 inch display with Full HD+ resolution. There is still a discussion on whether it will be an LTPS display or a Super Amoled display — naturally, this will affect the final price of the device as well. The Pocophone F2 will most probably run on the Snapdragon 855 processor. This is a powerful mobile platform harnessing multi-gigabit 4G connectivity, enabling 5G experience and geared to take on advanced AI functionality: especially for camera, gaming, voice control, etc.
There are not many leaks regarding the cameras on the Pocophone F2. But it has been suggested that the F2 will feature a triple camera setup with a 48MP primary camera. On the front, the phone will feature a 32MP selfie shooter, presumably with the Samsung GD1 sensor. This is not a bad offer, even with the little information that we know at this point.
On the battery side, the Pocophone F2 features a 4,000mAh battery. The phone will be charged via a USB Type-C cable and there is the support of Qualcomm Quick Charge 4 onboard. Quick Charge is a very convenient option to have as it allows for a more efficient charging when you are pressed for time. With that, there is no word about the phone supporting wireless charging.
Release date and price in India
No official release date has yet been announced for the Pocophone F2 by Xiaomi. But it is speculated that the phone will be launched around May this year and will be priced at around. $450 USD. The Pocophone F2’s price in India, however, is rumoured to be about Rs. 26,990, which translates to a lower price tag of about $388 for the version of the phone coming with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage,.
Naturally, we are expecting the Pocophone F2 to be better than the Pocophone F1. And, as rumours have it, there will be a few notable improvements:
● Larger display. The Pocophone F2 will come with 6.4 inch display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and Full HD+ resolution. The Pocophone F1, on the other hand, sports a slightly smaller 6.18 inch screen with the resolution of 2246 x 1080 and an aspect ratio of 18.7:9.
● CPU upgrade. One of the key selling points of the bestselling Pocophone F1 was that it claimed to be “the cheapest smartphone with the Snapdragon 845”. The Pocophone F2, however, will get an upgrade in the CPU department and will sport the Snapdragon 855 processor.
● RAM and ROM combos. The Pocophone F1 came in two versions: 6GB + 64GB and 6GB + 128GB. It is expected that the Pocophone F2 will come with the mainstream setup of 6GB + 64GB. Some sources also suggest that there will be more high-end versions of the Pocophone F2 as well: 6GB + 128GB and 8GB + 128GB.
● Camera upgrades. The Pocophone F1 was nothing to get too excited about in the camera department: the phone features 12.0MP + 5.0MP cameras on the back and a slightly more impressive 20MP selfie shooter. The Pocophone F2, on the other hand, takes the camera offer to a new level with a triple cam setup on the back featuring a 48MP primary sensor and a 32MP selfie shooter.
Initially, there was talk that the Pocophone F2 might come with a larger battery — 5,000mAh. But, as the more recent leaks have suggested, the battery on the Pocophine F2 will stay at 4,000mAh just like with the Pocophone F1.
Should you upgrade?
If what we know from the leaks and rumours is at least partially true, the Pocophone F2 seems to feature a number of important improvements to the Pocophone F1. With a whole year in between the two phones, this is quite expected — and if you are a fan of the Pocophone F1, the Pocophone F2 does seem like a reasonable way to move forward. The starting price for the F2 is expected to be a $100 more than the F1, which also seems more than reasonable taking the upgrades into account.
In short, we are eager to finally get our hands on the Pocophone F2 and see what the device offers in terms of performance and design, rumours aside.
