Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro – two main upgrades you must know

Redmi Note 7 Pro is the second product after Redmi brand came independence. We are almost very familiar with the specs and design of the Redmi Note 7 Pro, as it has been exposed before officially released. Compared with the Redmi Note 7, the main upgrade of the Redmi Note 7 pro is the processor and camera sensor.

The middle frame, keys, speakers, 3.5 mm headphone holes, infrared remote control and other interface positions are all the same. The screen is also a 6.3-inch 2340*1080 droplet screen.

Because the border and forehead/chin of this (or such screen) are narrow, the official has the idea of “replicating the classic grip of a 5.5-inch traditional incomplete screen phone”. Now cheap phone has a higher screen share, which attributes to technological progress.

Another invisible upgrade with Pro is the addition of P2i nano-hydrophobic coatings, as mentioned in its previous press invitation.

This is not a new technology. It was used on Motorola phones in 2011. Of course, they were all high-end products at that time. P2i is a hydrophobic layer that allows liquids to slide away quickly even when they enter components.

Note 7 Pro is not a three-proof mobile phone. With this coating, it has a certain ability to prevent rain and sweat erosion. For cheap phones, installing waterproof glue at the junction will undoubtedly increase the cost and destroy the cost-effective ratio of Xiao Jingang. Using P2i hydrophobic coating is obviously more cost-effective and practical.

Upgrade 1: Snapdragon 675 chip
The Redmi Note 7 without Pro was equipped with the Snapdragon 660 chip. Its maximum main frequency is 2.2 GHz. Its running score is more than 140,000. Note 7 Pro’s processor was upgraded to snapdragon 675. This is Qualcomm’s mid-end product released last October. It replaces the previous Snapdragon 670 and becomes the mainstay of mid-end chips.

The Snapdragon 675 uses a 11 nanometer process technology. The CPU adopts a new Kryo 460 architecture. The CPU has a large core frequency of 2.0GHz, which is based on Cortex-A76 architecture. The small core frequency is 1.7 GHz. It is still based on Cortex-A55. Compared with 670 processors, the overall performance is improved by 20%.

In terms of GPU, the chip integrates Adreno 612; the communication part is the snapdragon X12 LTE modem. In addition, it supports face unlocking, scene and object recognition, image style conversion, and portrait lighting. It supports Qualcomm Aqstic and aptX audio technology and QC4 fast charging.

With the new Kryo 460 architecture, the snapdragon 675 processor has brought more smooth performance, which is undoubtedly good news for the gamers pursuing high-performance, and it is also one of the main needs of this price segment users (such as students).

Note 7 Pro wasn’t the first mobile phone to be equipped with snapdragon 675. This time, Xioami was first caught up by Meizu. Despite appearance and brand preferences, the advantage of Note 7 Pro is that it has a more reasonable storage combination of 6GB + 128GB, which is obviously much more rational than the strange combination of 4 + 128 or 4 + 64 of Meizu Note 9.

The overall performance of the snapdragon 675 is certainly not as good as that of the 855 flagship core, but after all, this is a $223.5 mobile phone. The cost determines the quality of the phone.

Upgrade 2: IMX586 CMOS
IMX586 is a 1/2.0 inch CMOS released by Sony at the end of July 2018. The reason why Xiaomi emphasizes it especially is that IMX586 is almost the best component that mobile phone manufacturers can find at present. Xiaomi 9 also used it.

Although the “top matching lens original” is not equal to the top-level photographic experience, but after all, the foundation is good, so it’s natural for Redmi to make IMX586 a selling point.

Before that, Redmi Note 7 without Pro was also labeled “48 megapixel lens”. Lei Jun also explained at the release meeting that the reason why Sony IMX586 was not used at that time was that the CMOS could not be mass produced at present. After more than two months, it seems that IMX586 has been ready. So the Note 7 can be ready soon.

This camera module “base” is 1/2 inch, supporting 48 million photos straight out of the hardware. It can output 12 million pictures of 1.6 micron large pixel through the technology of four-in-one pixel, giving full play to the advantages of the bottom sensor, so that the camera can help take pictures clearly on day or at night.

In the 48 megapixel mode, Note 7 Pro does show a higher resolution. Both lenses have “48 MP AL DUAL CAMERA” printed next to them, but one is Samsung’s original GM1 (12 megapixels) and the other is Sony’s IMX 586 (48 megapixels).

In fact, although “48 megapixel super-clear” can retain more details, it also brings a problem: its photographic computation is increased. In AI mode, a 12 megapixel photo is about 4 MB in volume, while in 48 megapixel mode, when it reaches 10-15 MB or so, it has to wait more than one second for each shot to press next time. This experience means that it is more like the professional model of mobile phones and is the choice of professionals. Sharing in social networks also takes more time because of larger files, which is due to physical reasons.

So ultimately, more people will probably choose the AI photography mode, because it is more in line with the mobile phone’s casual shooting habits, and the mobile phone also helps to correct the recognition to make the photos look better. Speaking of this, the style tuning is different of the phones is different. The Pro version seems to be a bit more gorgeous.

In real life, many people do not use mobile phones as critical as the netizens. The phone doesn’t have to be 855-level flagship. The first consideration of buyers is price.​ After gaining independence, the main task of Redmi is to carry forward the “cost-effective ratio” performance. Compared with other brand products in the same period, it did so.

Two months later, Xiaomi added another upgrade option to Note 7. Its task is not to replace the former. With an extra $74.5, users can get better photos and processors. There are also minor improvements such as P2i. On the one hand, it is because there are enough supplies of snapdragon 675 and IMX586; on the other hand, it is also because of the fierce competition in the market, so it is possible to retain a large number of users with more choices.
