Meet VIOMI T1B Pro Espresso Machine Review – Barista-Style Coffee with Touchscreen Simplicity
The home espresso machine market has changed considerably in recent years, with increasingly sophisticated brewing technology moving from expensive enthusiast equipment into compact appliances designed for everyday kitchens. The VIOMI T1B Pro Espresso Machine fits neatly into this new generation, combining a 20-bar pump, controlled 9-bar extraction, low-pressure pre-infusion, NTC temperature management, a thermoblock heating system, touchscreen operation, cold brew functionality and a dedicated steam wand in a surprisingly narrow stainless-steel body. After spending time with the T1B Pro, what I find particularly interesting is the balance VIOMI is attempting to achieve. This is not a fully automatic bean-to-cup machine that removes the user from the brewing process, nor is it an intimidating traditional espresso machine demanding extensive experience before producing acceptable results. Instead, it retains the tactile elements that make preparing espresso enjoyable — filling and tamping the portafilter, locking it into the group head and manually steaming milk — while simplifying much of the actual brewing process through clearly presented electronic controls. For someone who wants to move beyond capsule coffee without dedicating a large section of the kitchen to specialist equipment, that combination makes considerable sense.

The VIOMI T1B Pro makes a good first impression because the package contains essentially everything required to begin experimenting with espresso once suitable ground coffee is available. Inside the box, alongside the machine itself, I found the 51 mm portafilter, a 51 mm single-cup filter basket, a 51 mm double-cup filter basket, the combined coffee scoop and tamper, and the user manual. It is a sensibly focused collection rather than an unnecessarily large accessory bundle. The interchangeable baskets provide the flexibility required for single and double preparations, while the supplied scoop and tamper mean that a first-time espresso-machine owner does not immediately need to purchase another accessory simply to prepare the coffee bed. At approximately 3.45 kg, the T1B Pro is also relatively manageable when taking it out of the box and positioning it on the countertop. Despite its compact dimensions, it does not give the immediate impression of being a lightweight travel appliance, and the stainless-steel surfaces, substantial portafilter and full-size brewing arrangement make it look and feel considerably more serious.

VIOMI has taken a clean, contemporary approach to the T1B Pro, and aesthetically I think this is one of the machine’s strongest characteristics. The combination of brushed metallic surfaces, black touchscreen interface and transparent rear water reservoir creates an appearance that is unmistakably modern without becoming excessively decorative. The machine measures approximately 12.5 × 6.2 × 12.5 inches, making its narrow footprint particularly valuable in kitchens where horizontal counter space is at a premium. At only around 6.2 inches wide, it can occupy a relatively small space between other appliances while still offering the basic architecture expected from a conventional espresso machine. The front is dominated by the large black control panel, with the group head and portafilter immediately underneath, while the steam wand sits neatly to the right. The drip tray occupies almost the entire lower brewing area and its stainless-steel upper surface reinforces the premium visual character of the machine while providing enough space for the cups used during normal preparation. I also appreciate the positioning of the water reservoir at the rear. Its transparent construction makes the remaining water level easy to monitor, while its 1.1-litre capacity strikes a reasonable compromise between keeping the machine compact and avoiding constant refilling during normal household use.

The T1B Pro combines stainless-steel components with the plastics and transparent reservoir materials expected in this class of appliance, and the result feels appropriate for a compact semi-automatic machine intended for frequent domestic use. The portafilter deserves particular attention because it is one of the components the user handles every time coffee is prepared. Its substantial handle provides good leverage when locking it into the group head, while the 51 mm basket format is sufficiently large to provide the familiar workflow of a traditional espresso machine without forcing VIOMI to make the overall chassis unnecessarily wide. Another small but genuinely useful detail is the use of strong suction feet underneath the machine. Locking and unlocking a portafilter introduces lateral force, and lighter espresso machines have a tendency to move across the countertop while doing this. The additional grip helps the T1B Pro remain planted during preparation and makes everyday operation feel more controlled. The removable stainless-steel components, detachable drip tray and removable water reservoir also contribute to the practical side of the construction. Coffee preparation inevitably produces grounds, splashes and residue, so easy access to the areas that require regular cleaning is considerably more valuable over the lifetime of the machine than elaborate cosmetic detailing.

The T1B Pro becomes especially approachable once it is powered on. Rather than confronting the user with several mechanical switches and ambiguous indicator lights, VIOMI provides a touchscreen interface with clearly identifiable controls for Espresso, Espresso x2, Cold Brew, Americano, Custom, Clean and Steam. This arrangement substantially reduces the learning curve. I still prepare the coffee manually by filling the appropriate basket, distributing and tamping the grounds and locking the portafilter into position, but the actual beverage selection is reduced to a straightforward touch operation. The thermoblock heating system is another important part of the everyday experience because a domestic espresso machine is much more useful when it does not require a lengthy ritual before every cup. Combined with NTC precision temperature control, the heating architecture is intended to bring the machine into operating condition quickly while maintaining more consistent brewing temperatures during extraction. Coffee volume can also be customized, which I consider more important than simply providing a long list of fixed beverage presets. Beans, roast levels, grind sizes and personal preferences vary enormously, and the ability to adapt output volume gives the T1B Pro some flexibility beyond its factory selections. The workflow therefore remains satisfyingly hands-on without becoming cumbersome: prepare the grounds, tamp them, install the portafilter, place the cup and select the desired preparation from the touchscreen.

The headline specification is the 20-bar pump, although pump pressure and actual extraction pressure should not be confused. VIOMI uses the pump as part of a system designed to maintain approximately 9 bar during extraction, which is the more meaningful figure when discussing espresso preparation. Before full extraction begins, the T1B Pro employs low-pressure pre-infusion to wet the coffee bed more gradually. This stage is designed to encourage more uniform saturation before higher pressure is applied, reducing the likelihood of channeling, where water finds paths of least resistance through the grounds and produces uneven extraction. In practical terms, the objective is not simply maximum pressure but repeatability: controlled saturation followed by stable extraction so that the coffee’s aromatic compounds, oils and body can be extracted more evenly. With appropriately fresh coffee, sensible dosing and a suitable grind, the system is capable of producing the dense appearance and rich golden crema that most users will expect when moving from simpler coffee-making methods to espresso. It is important, however, to remember that the machine cannot compensate completely for poor preparation. Grind size, coffee freshness, dose, distribution and tamping still have a substantial effect on the final result. I actually consider this an advantage for anyone interested in learning more about espresso, because the T1B Pro simplifies machine operation without eliminating the variables that make experimenting with coffee interesting.

Pressure receives much of the marketing attention surrounding espresso machines, but temperature stability is equally significant. VIOMI equips the T1B Pro with NTC precision temperature control alongside its thermoblock fast-heating system. The combination is intended to provide rapid heating while controlling water temperature during preparation, avoiding the substantial temperature fluctuations that can negatively affect extraction. Water that is too cool can produce a weak and underdeveloped cup, while excessive temperature can emphasize bitterness and undesirable roasted characteristics. The T1B Pro’s electronically managed architecture removes much of this consideration from the normal operating process. I can concentrate on the variables I can actually influence — beans, grind, dose and tamp — while the machine handles its heating cycle automatically.

Although espresso is naturally the centrepiece, the T1B Pro is not restricted to a single style of coffee. Dedicated Espresso and Espresso x2 selections make single and double preparations immediately accessible, while the Americano mode provides a convenient option for users who prefer a longer drink. The Custom function is particularly useful when the standard volumes do not correspond to a particular cup, coffee or personal preference. It gives the machine considerably more versatility than an appliance based exclusively on predetermined recipes. This mixture of presets and customization is well judged. Beginners can start using the machine without navigating complicated configuration menus, while more experienced users retain some ability to adjust the resulting beverage rather than accepting only the manufacturer’s default volumes.

One of the more unusual additions is dedicated Cold Brew functionality. Traditional cold brew is normally associated with an extended steeping process lasting many hours, whereas VIOMI approaches the concept through low-temperature brewing that is designed to produce a cold coffee drink without the lengthy waiting period and preparation associated with conventional immersion methods. I would regard this primarily as a convenient cold-coffee mode rather than a direct replacement for every traditional overnight cold-brew recipe, because the extraction method is fundamentally different. Nevertheless, its presence substantially expands what the machine can prepare. During warmer weather, being able to place a glass containing ice beneath the group head, select the Cold Brew function and quickly prepare a chilled coffee makes the T1B Pro considerably more versatile than an espresso-only appliance.

For me, a semi-automatic espresso machine becomes substantially more interesting when it includes a capable steam system, because espresso is only part of the experience for anyone who regularly drinks cappuccino, latte, flat white or macchiato. The T1B Pro includes a dedicated steam wand positioned on the right-hand side of the machine. VIOMI designed the system to generate the fine microbubbles required for smooth microfoam rather than merely introducing large quantities of air into the milk. There is inevitably some technique involved. The position of the steam tip, depth below the milk surface, angle of the pitcher and duration of steaming all influence the result, so achieving consistently silky microfoam requires more practice than simply touching the Espresso button. That learning process is normal for this type of machine and ultimately provides more control over milk texture. Once the technique is established, the steam system adds considerable value, opening the door not only to conventional milk-based drinks but also to basic latte-art experimentation.

The touchscreen is arguably the component that most clearly separates the T1B Pro from the visual language of traditional espresso machines. Instead of rows of physical switches, the front presents large graphical beverage icons against a black surface. The arrangement is immediately understandable. Power, Espresso, Espresso x2 and Cold Brew occupy the upper portion, with Americano, Custom, Clean and Steam beneath them. I particularly like that VIOMI has resisted turning the touchscreen into an unnecessarily complicated smart interface. There are no layers of menus that need to be navigated just to make an espresso. Its purpose is essentially to make conventional coffee-machine functions easier to select, and in that respect it works well. It also contributes significantly to the overall design. When combined with the brushed stainless-steel body, the black interface gives the T1B Pro the appearance of a considerably more contemporary kitchen appliance.

Cleaning is one area where convenience can determine whether an espresso machine continues to be enjoyable after the novelty of the first few weeks has disappeared. VIOMI has sensibly made the major maintenance areas accessible. The water tank and drip tray can both be removed, while the stainless-steel brewing components can be rinsed after use. The touchscreen also includes a dedicated Clean function, providing an obvious route to routine machine maintenance. After preparing milk, the steam wand should still be wiped and purged promptly rather than allowing milk residue to dry onto or inside the tip, and the portafilter and basket benefit from being rinsed after brewing. These are normal requirements for virtually any semi-automatic espresso setup rather than shortcomings specific to the T1B Pro. The relatively open front brewing area also makes it easier to wipe away stray grounds and splashes before they accumulate.

The VIOMI T1B Pro, model ES02A-01, is a semi-automatic espresso machine powered by a 1350 W heating system on the reviewed 120 V/60 Hz specification. It uses a 20-bar pump, a thermoblock fast-heating system with NTC precision temperature control and a 1.1-litre, or 37.2-ounce, removable water reservoir. The machine weighs approximately 3.45 kg, or 7.5 lb, and measures around 12.5 × 6.2 × 12.5 inches. Its compact dimensions are particularly significant because VIOMI has managed to accommodate the touchscreen, portafilter brewing system, rear reservoir and dedicated steam wand without creating the broad footprint normally associated with more elaborate countertop coffee equipment. Potential buyers should, of course, confirm that the electrical version sold in their market matches their local mains supply, since voltage specifications can vary between regional versions.

The VIOMI T1B Pro is an interesting interpretation of the modern home espresso machine because it manages to combine two experiences that are sometimes treated as opposites. It preserves enough of the traditional espresso workflow to make preparing coffee engaging, yet uses electronic control and a thoughtfully designed touchscreen to remove much of the inconvenience that can discourage beginners. Its 20-bar pump provides the pressure capability behind a controlled approximately 9-bar extraction process, low-pressure pre-infusion aims to improve saturation of the coffee bed, NTC temperature management and thermoblock heating address consistency and preparation speed, while the steam wand transforms the machine from a straightforward espresso maker into a much more complete platform for cappuccino, latte, macchiato and other milk-based drinks. The addition of Americano, customizable coffee volume and a dedicated cold-coffee mode further broadens its usefulness. There are naturally limitations inherent to the format. There is no integrated grinder, so achieving the best results requires properly ground coffee or a separate capable grinder, and anyone expecting fully automatic cappuccino preparation will need to look toward a different category of machine. Milk steaming remains a manual skill, while espresso quality will continue to depend heavily on coffee freshness, grind consistency, dosing and puck preparation.

Those limitations are also part of the T1B Pro’s appeal. It does not pretend to remove the user entirely from coffee preparation. Instead, it automates the elements where electronic control is genuinely useful while retaining the physical interaction that makes a semi-automatic machine satisfying to own. After using it, I see the VIOMI T1B Pro as a particularly attractive option for someone taking the first serious step beyond capsules, pods or basic filter coffee. Its narrow stainless-steel construction is easy to accommodate, its touchscreen is exceptionally approachable, and the combination of espresso extraction, customization, cold coffee and manual milk steaming provides enough flexibility to encourage experimentation long after the initial unboxing.

Most importantly, the T1B Pro feels like a machine designed around everyday use rather than specifications alone. It can deliver a straightforward espresso when time is limited, an Americano for a longer morning coffee, a chilled drink when the weather calls for it, or finely textured milk when I want to spend more time preparing a cappuccino or latte. That versatility, combined with its compact footprint and accessible semi-automatic workflow, makes the VIOMI T1B Pro a convincing bridge between simple domestic coffee makers and the considerably more demanding world of enthusiast espresso equipment.
