A Guide to Picking Your Ultimate Chromebook Education Device

In a previous blog we talked about the “Six Factors To Consider When Choosing Your 2023 Education Chromebook”. In this blog we will provide guidance on which Chromebook devices are best for K12 students and which are best for teachers. For K12 students we recommend Chromebook devices that are durable, have spill and drop protection, are secure, environmentally sustainable, and provide high-performance and long battery life.

Look for Chromebooks that last for 11 hours or more for young kids and elementary school students, and Chromebooks that last 15 hours or more for middle and high school students. Long battery life fosters a seamless learning experience as it allows students to focus on learning and at the same time it relieves teachers from the stress of monitoring the battery life of each of their students’ devices.

We also recommend devices that provide high-performance capabilities for better multitasking and collaboration so students can have a smooth learning experience when they use video conferencing tools (i.e., Meet or Zoom), video editing tools such as KineMaster, the 3D simulation Tinkercad, and other available tools.

The K12 Chromebook devices that meet the criteria above and that we recommend for students are the following:

Acer Spin 311 R722T | MediaTek Kompanio 500 | 8GB RAM | 32GB eMMC | 2.87 lbs. | 15h
Acer 311 C722 | MediaTek Kompanio 500 | 8GB RAM | 32GB eMMC | 2.87 lbs. | 15h
Both Acer Spin 311 R722T and Acer 311 C722 Chromebook devices are built with spill protection and military drop protection for all sorts of incidents that could happen in the classroom. They both last 15 hours and are light weight.

ASUS CZ1000 | MediaTek Kompanio 500 | 4GB RAM | 64/128 eMMC | 1.1 lbs. | 11h
The ASUS CZ1000 can be used as a tablet or as a regular device with a keyboard. This device is ultra-low weight coming in at just 1.1 pounds, which could be good for younger kids. All the ruggedness is built into this device which makes it a durable Chromebook that can withstand the challenging demands from younger kids.

HP x360 11MK G3 EE | MediaTek Kompanio 500 | 4GB/8GB RAM | 32/64GB eMMC | 3.13 lbs. | 16h
HP 11MK G9 EE | MediaTek Kompanio 500 | 4GB/8GB RAM | 32/64GB eMMC | 2.95 lbs. | 16h
The HP x360 11MK G3 EE and the HP 11MK G9 EE are two exciting devices that last up to 16 hours which could be excellent for students who have long days at school or those who take the Chromebooks with them home. Both devices come in 4GB and 8GB of RAM. The 8GB RAM allows for higher performance which could be a good choice for students in middle and high schools.

Lenovo 100e (Gen 4) | MediaTek Kompanio 520 | 4GB/8GB RAM | 32GB eMMC | 2.7 lbs. | 15h+
Lenovo 300e (Gen 4) | MediaTek Kompanio 520 | 4GB/8GB RAM | 64GB eMMC | 2.93 lbs. | 15h+
Lenovo just launched two exciting new devices Lenovo 100e (Gen 4) and Lenovo 300e (Gen 4). The Lenovo 100e has a durable keyboard with full skirt keycaps and reinforced ports and hinges. The Lenovo 300e has an integrated pen, a mute button, an HD front camera and optional 5MP world-facing camera to capture real-time field trip video and images. Both devices are sturdy with military-grade durability, spill protection, and mechanically anchored keys that stay put and cannot be pulled off. Both Chromebooks also last over 15 hours which allows students to focus on learning and relieves teachers from the stress of monitoring the battery life of each of their students’ devices. These devices are powered by the new MediaTek Kompanio 520 processors which provide almost double the performance of the previous generation of MediaTek Kompanio 500 processors. Also, the new MediaTek Kompanio 520 processors provide higher security against malware.

ASUS CM14 | MediaTek Kompanio 520 | 4GB RAM | 32GB eMMC | 3.2 lbs. | 15h
ASUS CM14 Flip | MediaTek Kompanio 520 | 8GB RAM | 128GB eMMC | 3.44 lbs. | 14h
The ASUS CM14 and the ASUS CM14 Flip devices have also just recently been announced and are powered by the new MediaTek Kompanio 520 processors which allow for higher performance and higher security against malware. They are built to meet next-level and industry-leading MIL-STD 810H3 US military tests so you don’t have to worry about everyday knocks and bumps.

For teacher devices we recommend choosing Chromebooks powered by processors with higher performance capabilities to allow for faster multitasking.
Here are the exciting teacher devices that we recommend:

Acer 514 | MediaTek Kompanio 828 | 4GB/8GB RAM | 64GB eMMC | 2.9 lbs. | 15h
Acer Spin 513 | MediaTek Kompanio 1380 | 8GB RAM | 128GB eMMC | 2.9 lbs. | 11h

The Acer 514 Chromebook provides excellent mid-range performance while still providing incredible all-day battery life (rated at 15 hours). The Acer Spin 513 features premium features and provides the best performance as it is powered by the MediaTek Kompanio 1380 processor. The device is also ultra-thin, light weight, and fan-less giving teachers the ultimate experience. Both devices are beautifully designed with powerful performance and were picked in 2022 by Chrome Unboxed as Best of the Year Chromebook devices.

HP x360 | MediaTek Kompanio 1200/1380 | 4GB/8GB RAM | 64GB eMMC | 2.95 lbs. | 16h
The HP x360 provides a large multi-touch trackpad with Full HD touch panel and up to 16 hours of battery life. The device is light weight, fan-less, and has high performance capabilities that can support heavy multi-tasking use cases.

* Please note that the same Chromebook model can be powered by different processors. To ensure that your teachers and students are getting the specs mentioned above, confirm that the Chromebooks you pick are powered by MediaTek Kompanio processors.
