Differences between Minisforum AI X1 & AI X1 Pro
Minisforum has recently introduced two new AI-powered mini PCs: the AI X1 Pro and the AI X1. Both machines are designed to deliver impressive performance in a compact form factor, making them ideal for various use cases, from AI development to creative work and gaming. However, understanding the differences between these two models can help you make a more informed purchasing decision. This article will delve into the key distinctions between the AI X1 Pro and AI X1, focusing on their performance, features, and ideal user scenarios.
CPU and GPU
The AI X1 Pro is equipped with the powerful AMD Ryzen™ AI 9 HX 370, designed to handle demanding tasks such as AI model deployment, complex 3D rendering, and high-load video editing with ease. In contrast, the AI X1 is powered by the AMD Ryzen™ 7 260, better suited for everyday computing, moderate gaming, and less intensive creative tasks.
The AI X1 Pro features the AMD Radeon™ 890M graphics, this GPU can deliver smooth performance in light to medium load games. The AI X1, on the other hand, has the AMD Radeon™ 780M graphics, which are still powerful but slightly less capable. For users prioritizing gaming or graphics-intensive tasks, the AI X1 Pro offers a more robust experience.
AI Engine Capabilities
For users interested in deploying AI models locally, the AI X1 Pro is the superior choice. Its AMD Ryzen™ AI 9 HX 370 processor, with its integrated NPU providing up to 50 TOPS of performance, is optimized for AI workloads and can handle complex AI tasks with ease.
The AI X1, while still capable, is better suited for general AI applications and less intensive tasks. The AI X1’s NPU provide up to 16 TOPS of performance, and an overall 38 TOPS.
In terms of gaming, the AI X1 Pro’s more powerful GPU and higher VRAM allocation make it ideal for smooth gameplay in medium to high-demand games. The AI X1 can handle light gaming but may struggle with more demanding titles.
Purchase Recommendations
When choosing between the AI X1 Pro and AI X1, consider your specific needs and budget:
1. AI Development and Professional Workloads: The AI X1 Pro is ideal for users who need to deploy and run complex AI models locally. Its powerful CPU and GPU make it perfect for tasks like AI training, 3D rendering, and high-load video editing. However, its higher price tag means it is a more significant investment.
2. Gaming: If gaming performance is a priority, the AI X1 Pro is the better choice. Its powerful GPU and extensive interface options make it suitable for both gaming and creative tasks. However, it is important to note that for heavy gamers, connecting an external high-performance graphics card may be necessary to achieve higher gaming performance. Both the AI X1 Pro and AI X1 are equipped with an OCuLink interface, which allows for almost lossless connection to an external graphics card. In this case, the performance difference between the two machines is minimal. For heavy gamers who plan to connect an external graphics card, the choice between the AI X1 Pro and AI X1 may come down to other factors such as price, portability, and additional features.
3. Creative Work: The AI X1 Pro is highly recommended for creative work, its powerful GPU and extensive interface options make it suitable for creative tasks. For example, its integrated SD card slot can provide convenience and efficiency for content creators. Both can support quad-screen display, the AI X1 is also a great choice.
4. Portability and General Use: The AI X1 is more compact and portable, making it ideal for users who prioritize mobility. It is also a good choice for everyday computing and less intensive creative tasks. With a more affordable entry point, it offers great value for money.
5. Budget Considerations: If budget is a major factor, the AI X1 provides a more affordable entry point into the world of AI-powered mini PCs without compromising too much on performance.
In conclusion, both the Minisforum AI X1 Pro and AI X1 are impressive mini PCs with unique strengths. The AI X1 Pro is designed for users who need a powerful, versatile machine capable of handling demanding tasks, while the AI X1 is perfect for those who prioritize portability and general use. Evaluate your needs carefully to choose the machine that best fits your requirements.
