MINISFORUM MS-R1 Launches – The World’s First ARM UEFI Mini Workstation
MINISFORUM, known for pushing the limits of compact computing, has just unveiled its latest innovation — the MS-R1, the world’s first ARM-based UEFI mini workstation. Built around the brand-new CIX CP8180 processor, this 1.7-liter powerhouse blends the flexibility of the ARM ecosystem with the professionalism and scalability of a workstation-grade platform.
⚙️ A New ARM Challenger
At the heart of the MS-R1 is the CIX CP8180, a 12-core, 12-thread ARM processor clocked at 2.6GHz with a 28W TDP. It integrates an NPU delivering up to 45 TOPS (28.8 TOPS dedicated to AI acceleration) — positioning it as a formidable new entrant in the ARM computing arena. With full UEFI BIOS support, users can now enjoy a smooth, x86-like experience on ARM hardware. No dev boards, no complex boot sequences — just plug in, power on, and install your preferred OS or virtualization environment.
💻 Workstation-Class Expandability
Despite its ultra-compact 1.7L chassis, the MS-R1 is designed for serious scalability.
PCIe 4.0 x16 Slot (x8 Electrical): Expand with GPUs, high-speed NICs, or storage controllers.
Dual M.2 2280/22110 Slots: Add blazing-fast NVMe drives up to 8TB.
ECC LPDDR5 5500MHz Memory: Up to 64GB RAM with optional ECC for enterprise-grade reliability (ECC reduces usable capacity by 1/8).
This level of expandability makes the MS-R1 an ideal testbed for ARM-based virtualization, AI acceleration, or edge computing environments.
🌐 Connectivity Without Compromise
The MS-R1 brings network flexibility front and center. Equipped with dual 10GbE (RTL8127) ports, it’s ready for high-throughput data pipelines, server clusters, or NAS setups. Add to that Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 (RZ616), and you have seamless connectivity across both wired and wireless environments.
🧠 Virtualization & Container Support
Out of the box, the MS-R1 supports Proxmox VE, KVM, and Docker-based Android VMs, unlocking advanced virtualization on ARM hardware. Whether you’re hosting containers, building CI/CD environments, or testing parallelized workloads, the MS-R1 delivers dependable, efficient performance — all under 40dB and with turbo power capped at 28W.
🧊 Compact, Cool, and Quiet
Despite its workstation capabilities, cooling and acoustics have been meticulously engineered. A triple copper heat pipe design, turbine fan, and aerodynamic vortex channels work in harmony with phase-change thermal materials to ensure stable performance. Operating under 35dB, it’s both efficient and whisper-quiet — perfect for desks, studios, or edge server racks.
🔍 Redefining What ARM Can Do
The MS-R1 isn’t just another mini PC — it’s a statement piece for the next era of ARM computing. By combining ARM architecture, UEFI support, and PCIe expansion, MINISFORUM opens the door to a whole new class of compact workstations — from AI labs and edge clusters to developers exploring ARM-native virtualization.
🧩 MS-R1: Compact Power, Limitless Possibility
With the MS-R1, MINISFORUM redefines what’s possible in ARM-based workstations. Whether you’re a developer, AI researcher, or edge computing enthusiast, this tiny powerhouse gives you the freedom to build, scale, and explore — without compromise.
