Elevate Your Setup with the AOOSTAR WTR Max i5-1235U
Designed to be a top-tier NAS and home server hybrid, this machine is built to handle virtualization, heavy media streaming, and intense data management without breaking a sweat. Ahead of its official launch, we are pulling back the curtain to share the comprehensive hardware performance test results straight from our labs. Here is exactly what you can expect from the WTR Max.
Raw Computing Power: Intel Core i5-1235U
At the heart of the WTR Max is the highly efficient yet powerful Intel® Core™ i5-1235U processor. Whether you are running complex virtual machines, transcoding 4K video, or managing heavy Docker containers, this CPU delivers.
– Core Architecture: 10 Cores and 12 Threads (2 Performance-cores and 8 Efficient-cores) with a 12MB cache.
– Clock Speeds: Performance-cores reach a Max Turbo of 4.40 GHz, while Efficient-cores hit 3.30 GHz.
– Power Draw: A base power of 15W and a Max Turbo power of 55W. In our labs, we carefully tuned the BIOS to a balanced power mode of 30W-35W for optimal 24/7 NAS operation.
– Graphics: Integrated Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics.
Lab Benchmark Results (Tested on Windows 11 25H2 at 26℃ room temp):
– Cinebench R23: An impressive Multi-core score of 9,472 and a Single-core score of 1,604—with no frequency throttling.
– Geekbench 6: Multi-core score of 9,234 and Single-core score of 2,177.
– CPU-Z: Multi-core score of 4,483 and Single-core score of 628.
– Master Lu (V2023.1): A comprehensive system score of 960,417.
Massive Storage Expandability (11 Drives Total)
We know storage is the primary reason you are looking at a NAS, and the WTR Max offers an uncompromising configuration that leaves competitors behind.
– SATA HDD Bays: Six 3.5-inch SATA hard drive bays for high-capacity mechanical drives. In our labs, we tested this flawlessly with three 18TB Seagate Enterprise drives alongside other standard HDDs.
– NVMe M.2 Slots: An incredible five M.2 NVMe slots in total. This includes four slots on the Slot-0 expansion card (two PCIe 3.0×2 and two PCIe 3.0×1), plus one directly on the motherboard (PCIe 3.0×2).
– High-Speed Caching: Testing the motherboard’s M.2 slot with a PCIe 4.0 drive, we achieved sequential read speeds of 1752 MB/s and write speeds of 1724 MB/s.
Next-Gen Memory Support
– DDR5 RAM: Dual SO-DIMM slots supporting cutting-edge DDR5 memory up to 4800MT/s.
– High Capacity & ECC: Officially supporting up to 64GB, though our internal lab tests successfully confirmed stability with a massive 96GB (48GB x 2) setup.
Elite Connectivity, Interfaces & Wi-Fi Expandability
The AOOSTAR WTR Max ensures your data moves exactly as fast as you need it to, equipped with an exactingly engineered I/O layout.
– Quad Wired Networking: Dual Intel i226v 2.5G RJ45 ethernet ports, complemented by dual Intel 82599 10G SFP+ fiber ports for massive bandwidth.
– Wi-Fi Module: While the standard configuration comes without a built-in wireless network card, the system fully supports adding a CNVI protocol wireless card for users who need Wi-Fi connectivity.
– Comprehensive USB Interface: * Front Panel: One SD card slot, one USB 3.2 Gen1 port, and one Type-C USB 3.2 Gen1 port.
– Rear Panel: Two USB 3.2 Gen2 ports and one high-speed USB 4.0 port.
– Internal Motherboard: Two USB 2.0 ports (consisting of a 9-pin front header and a standard USB-A).
– Video Output: Connect to virtually any display with one HDMI 2.1 port (supporting up to 4096 x 2304 @ 60Hz), one DP 1.4 port (supporting up to an incredible 7680 x 4320 @ 60Hz), plus an independent OCuLink interface for external PCIe devices.
– Audio & Power: Features a standard 3.5mm headphone jack for audio output, and is powered securely via a 19V DC supply using a 5525 specification connector.
Thermals, Power, and Form Factor
Despite housing desktop-class hardware and up to 11 storage drives, the WTR Max maintains a remarkably compact and cool profile.
– Dimensions: 249mm x 245mm x 195mm, weighing in at 5.8KG.
– OS Flexibility: Fully compatible with your favorite environments, including Windows 11, Linux, Proxmox VE (PVE), FNOS (飞牛), TrueNAS, and Unraid.
– Power Supply: Includes a robust 280W DC power adapter (Input: 100V-240V, Output: 19V 14.7A 279.3W) to safely spin up high-capacity hard drives.
Strict Power & Cooling Tests:
We pushed this machine to its limits to ensure reliability for your data.
– Standby (Single M.2 Drive): Only 26W total power draw with temperatures sitting at a cool 38℃.
– Full CPU Load (Single M.2 Drive): Under AIDA64 stress testing, the CPU pulled 80W, maintaining a stable 76℃.
– Fully Populated Stress Test: Loaded with five M.2 SSDs and six 3.5-inch SATA HDDs under an FPU stress test, the CPU reached 79℃ with a total system power draw of 108W.
– Fully Populated Standby: With all 11 drives installed, standby power consumption is just 54W, with a sleep-wake peak surge of 117W.
