Shanling CD50 Brings Pure CD Playback to a Compact Desktop Format
Physical media continues to hold a special place in high-quality audio systems, and Shanling is returning attention to the compact CD player with the new CD50, a desktop-focused model designed for listeners who want straightforward disc playback without giving up modern conversion, headphone amplification or flexible system integration. Built around a traditional CD tray mechanism with an HD850 laser, the CD50 keeps the familiar ritual of physical playback while packaging it inside a remarkably compact chassis measuring approximately 20.5 × 18.8 × 5.3 cm. That smaller footprint makes it particularly suitable for desktop audio systems, bedrooms, offices and minimalist Hi-Fi setups where a full-width CD component would simply take up too much space, while the front-mounted 2.20-inch display, physical controls and included remote provide direct access to playback information and everyday operation.

At the heart of the digital section is the Cirrus Logic CS43198 DAC, supported by carefully selected components including Rubycon capacitors, while the headphone stage uses a pair of SGM8262 amplifiers. Shanling provides both 3.5 mm single-ended and 4.4 mm balanced headphone outputs, with the balanced connection rated for up to 830 mW at 32 ohms, giving the CD50 considerably more versatility than a conventional entry-level disc player and allowing it to function as a complete desktop listening system with nothing more than a pair of headphones.
The rear connectivity also makes the CD50 easy to integrate into larger audio setups. RCA outputs can operate as either Line-Out or Pre-Out, while coaxial and optical digital outputs allow the transport section to feed an external DAC or amplifier, making the player equally useful as a standalone source or as part of a more elaborate Hi-Fi chain.
Priced at $279 / €299, the Shanling CD50 sits in an appealing position for listeners who still value physical music collections but want something smaller, more affordable and more versatile than a traditional full-size CD player. With its compact construction, dedicated balanced headphone amplification, modern Cirrus Logic DAC and broad selection of analogue and digital outputs, it looks like a practical bridge between classic CD listening and the more flexible desktop audio systems popular today.
The Shanling CD50 is now shipping to distributors, with additional product information available through Shanling’s official website.
