GMKtec EVO-X5 Pro Brings Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 Power

GMKtec is preparing to introduce one of its most ambitious compact computers to date, the new EVO-X5 Pro, a high-performance desktop AI workstation built around the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 platform and designed for users who need substantially more computing power, memory capacity and expansion flexibility than a conventional mini PC can provide. Scheduled to launch on September 28 at 12:00 AM PST, this is precisely the kind of powerful and versatile machine I would love to test thoroughly and eventually use as a primary workstation in the China Gadgets Reviews editorial office.

At the heart of the EVO-X5 Pro is the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495, a Zen 5 processor featuring 16 cores, 32 threads and boost frequencies of up to 5.2GHz. This processing foundation should make the system suitable for demanding editorial workflows that combine extensive web research, large photo libraries, 4K and potentially 8K video projects, numerous browser tabs, virtual machines and several professional applications running simultaneously. Instead of being positioned simply as another small office computer, the EVO-X5 Pro is presented as a genuine desktop supercomputing platform with serious creative, technical and enterprise ambitions.

Its integrated AMD Radeon 8065S graphics solution incorporates 40 Compute Units, giving the machine the graphical resources required for content creation, hardware-accelerated editing, high-resolution displays and modern gaming without automatically depending on a separate graphics card. More importantly for its intended AI role, the platform includes an NPU rated at up to 55 TOPS and promises combined AI performance of as much as 131 TOPS, creating a strong foundation for local inference, intelligent creative tools and private AI workloads.

One of the most striking specifications is support for as much as 192GB of unified LPDDR5X-8533 memory, of which up to 160GB can reportedly be allocated as video memory. GMKtec claims that this architecture allows the EVO-X5 Pro to run large language models containing as many as 300 billion parameters entirely offline, although real-world performance, model format, quantization and software optimization will naturally determine how practical that capability becomes. Even so, the prospect of running substantial AI models locally, without continually sending sensitive information to cloud services, makes this system especially interesting for developers, researchers, creative professionals and businesses.

Storage expansion is equally impressive, with three M.2 2280 PCIe 4.0 slots supporting SSD capacities of up to 8TB each, for a potential total of 24TB. Such capacity could transform the EVO-X5 Pro into far more than a fast editing machine, allowing it to hold extensive 4K and 8K video archives, product photography, virtual machines, large datasets and locally stored AI models within a single compact workstation.

Connectivity also reflects its professional positioning, with two 10GbE LAN ports equipped with AMD DASH support, alongside front and rear USB4 connectivity that includes two 80Gbps USB4 V2 ports and two 40Gbps USB4 ports. AMD DASH adds hardware-rooted security, operating-system-independent out-of-band management and remote administration capabilities, while dTPM encryption and fingerprint authentication provide additional protection for business data. A built-in 330W LiteOn power supply completes the package and helps maintain a cleaner desk by removing the need for an oversized external power brick.

The GMKtec EVO-X5 Pro appears to blur the boundary between a premium mini PC, a creator workstation and a local AI server. For the CGR editorial office, it could become an exceptionally capable platform for editing videos, processing product photography, managing our extensive content archive, testing new software and exploring private generative AI workflows. I would genuinely like to put this machine through a complete CGR review, because specifications of this scale deserve more than synthetic benchmark charts—they deserve to be tested through demanding, everyday editorial work.
