Ninebot One Z6, Wonderfully Quirky Xiaomi Unicycle
Why four wheels or even two, when a single one is all you need? This design philosophy gave birth to Xiaomi Ninebot One Z6 unicycle, powered by electric motor and totally suitable for daily commuting to school or work or just casual urban rides. This wonderfully quirky vehicle looks like a thing from the future and yet it’s quite simple to ride it and Xiaomi has made a lot of effort to make it as safe and easy to operate as possible. Here’s what we think about it.
How it works?
Although you might think it will be difficult to maintain balance on single wheel, don’t be afraid – you don’t need to be a circus artist to ride it. Both centrifugal force and set of highly sophisticated sensors will help you maintain much neede balance. After just five minutes of practice, you’ll be cruising like a pro. It’s even capable of 20 degree climbs, so you can climb up slopes.
It’s equipped with double Hall motor with 1200 W rated power, allowing you to cruise up to 35 km/h, though recommended safe speed is 20 km/h. Its big, 530 Wh battery allows for 40-50 kmrange on a single charge – much more than your typical electric scooter, though that actually depends on your weight.
On top of that, it’s Bluetooth controllable, with app available on Android and iPhones, allowing you to set up various settings and run diagnostics. Bluetooth connection status is displayed in a small panel located at the top, along with battery level.
Is it safe to ride?
Single 18” tire is made from quality grooved car rubber, so you can expect good grip on every type of road: gravel, concrete, pavement, on wet and dry roads. Good adhesion makes it possible to drive safely even during rain, but just like driving a car, you should expect a bit longer braking distance, so always take care. Manufacturer claims that maximum braking distance won’t exceed 4 m at 20 km/h, and in practice it’s even shorter.
There are also tail (braking) lights and front light, so you should feel safe driving at night. Maximum speed is 25 km/h and if you’re riding faster, Ninebot will press the brakes for your safety. It also has customizable alarm that can notify you when you exceed certain speed.
Design and looks
As befits Xiaomi, the design combines simplicity, minimal looks, quality materials and ease of use. Graphite black cover looks positively aggressive and has something to do with sports bikes. There is also parking lever, so you can just park it for a while when you need to stop. It’s also really sturdy and can bear rider up to 150 km, much more than any electric scooter available on GearBest.
In conclusion
So is this “Ferrari” among unicycles worth it? Definitely! Xiaomi has proved once again that they can successfuly marry top notch design with high tech solutions to makes something fresh. Sporty looks and simple controls makes it fun to ride this wheel and it’s actually much more than a quirky contraption, because powerful motor and big battery makes it possible to commute to school or ride to work daily, even on longer distances. And the faces your surprised co-workers will make when you’ll ride this vehicle straight into the office – priceless.
