Meet INNOCN PF15 Pro
Ever since we’ve started to work from home, we are looking for ways to improve our productivity. One way you can speed up your work, especially if it involves in-depth online research or going through multiple videos, is to add an external monitor to your setup.

Before the lockdown, a single monitor was probably enough for your temporary home workstation. But right now, when everything is virtual, you are forced to attend all events, meetings, and classes online. This is why a portable monitor can come in handy in your work or your studies. You can simply plug in your laptop or even your smartphone to expand or mirror your home screen on a much larger display.

I was pleasantly surprised by PF15-Pro’s presentation. The initial packaging is a generic brown box with an image of PF15-Pro, some key features on the side and basic power information on the back. Inside is very similar to how Surface Pro bundles are done. There is a generic white package, holding the case, and another box for PF15-Pro. For the second box, it’s white with a lovely picture of the product, along with key technical specifications on the back.

Inside PF15-Pro’s box is the monitor held snuggly in place by a plastic inlay. Under the screen are two boxes that contain all your resources, including a small cleaning cloth, two different USB-C cables (power and display), a micro-HDMI to HDMI adapter, card that mentions the three year warranty and a few documents.

Despite the weight being listed as 2.2 lbs, the large and somewhat awkward 15.6” size makes it feel considerably more heavy than you might think. Thankfully, it isn’t just the size that adds to the weight, it’s the materials used and internal battery. The cool aluminum finish looks great and makes PF15-Pro feel well built.

Design and features
The Innocn PF15-PRO monitor supports USB Type-C and Mini-HDMI video connections. Although I connected the monitor via HDMI, I did test it with a Type-C connection as well. There is also a 2nd Type-C connection that can be used to provide touchscreen control when using HDMI.

With a 100% sRGB Color Gamut, 400 Nits of brightness, and a 1500:1 contrast ratio, the Innocn PF15-PRO display looks absolutely fabulous. As someone who is used to using 32″ and 40″ displays, the added display area was a welcomed addition to the “tiny” 14″ laptop display. The built-in speakers are sufficient for watching videos, but you certainly won’t be rocking music from a distance. However, anyone that wants to blast music from a laptop probably has external speakers anyway.

The menu system is definitely nicer to use with the touchscreen interface than with a typical button control system, although like many other monitors, it’s primarily icons without word descriptions. Initially, the timeout for the menu was very short, but there is a menu that lets you extend that to a more reasonable time, for example, 10 seconds. The cover/stand that is included is very similar to a typical tablet cover/stand. This is where I found the main thing that I did not like. The cover folds back and becomes a stand for the monitor. The cover/stand has two drawbacks. First, there is only one position for the monitor. Second, any debris on your table gets on the bottom (inside) of the cover. When the cover is folded back to cover the display while in transport, any debris on the cover touches the screen.

Resolution, Refresh Rate, and Color Quality
When it comes to the display, the PF15-PRO looks beautiful. It has a resolution of 1080p, which is full HD. It’s not as high a resolution as 2K or 4K, but there’s little need for that on such a small screen. Unless your face is mere inches away, 1080p is going to look more than fine. Not only that, but this is an IPS display, which allows you to view it from any angle. This makes it ideal for use as a second display, since you might not be looking at it head-on. In addition, the screen has a refresh rate of 60Hz. That’s more or less the industry standard, and it’s sufficient to eliminate motion blur in most cases.

The PF15-PRO is perfect for content creators. It has a color gamut of 100% of the sRGB color space. In other words, it can produce any color you’ll use for most photos and animations. Not only that, but the sRGB space is far superior to Adobe for creating physical prints. What you see on your screen will exactly match the colors that print out. In addition, this display boasts a contrast ratio of 1,500:1. That’s right in the sweet spot for producing a variety of dark tones. For darker games and movies, you’ll have a much easier time telling what’s going on.

Power & Battery
When it comes to power, the INNOCN PF-15 Pro has one very nice feature. It has a built-in 5,000mAh battery that boasts up to 4 hours of continuous use without having to take power from an external source. The observant ones amongst you might notice that in the photo above with the display connected to the Feelworld LivePro L1 V1, the only cable I had plugged in was the HDMI cable. This is because the display was running off its own internal battery. As mentioned above, though, there is also a separate USB power socket so that if you want to run for longer, you can plug power into either a USB charger, a suitable USB/Thunderbolt port on your laptop or a USB power bank. And you can charge it separately even while you’re using it.

Our Verdict
Once I got PF15-Pro working, I was impressed with the experience. Not only could I freely use this screen via the built-in battery, which gives about four hours of battery life, it looked and functioned well. Best of all, it does exactly what it claims, even offering some additional features. As you can see, the INNOCN PF15-PRO Portable Monitor has a lot to bring to the table. To begin with, it has a rock-solid design. It’s tough and durable, and it’s easy to use and set up. And the addition of a built-in battery gives it more versatility than most portable monitors. It can connect to almost any device. Finally, this display just looks gorgeous. It’s bright and vibrant, and it has a wide color gamut. It has a high contrast ratio, and an IPS panel with a wide viewing angle.
