Meet Elecrow CrowPanel Advance 7“ HMI ESP32-S3 Screen
I’ve worked with a variety of ESP32-based displays and HMI panels over the years, but the Elecrow CrowPanel Advance 7″ immediately stood out to me as a step above the rest. After spending a few weeks building and testing projects with it, I can say that this isn’t just another development screen—it feels like a true next-generation HMI platform that bridges hardware flexibility, AI integration, and developer-friendly tools.
Right out of the box, the CrowPanel Advance makes a strong impression. The 7-inch IPS panel with 800×480 resolution is bright, clear, and has excellent color reproduction. Thanks to its 178° wide viewing angle, the display remains sharp no matter how I positioned it on my workbench. The capacitive touch panel was smooth and highly responsive—touch inputs felt instantaneous, with no lag or misreads. The casing feels sturdy, and the port layout is thoughtfully designed for accessibility. Compared to other HMI panels I’ve used, it’s obvious Elecrow put care into both usability and durability.
The real star of the show is the ESP32-S3 chip inside. With its dual-core Xtensa LX7 processor clocked up to 240MHz, plus 8MB PSRAM and 16MB Flash, the device handled demanding tasks with ease. Running advanced graphics with LVGL (LittlevGL) was smooth—even animations and UI transitions were fluid, which isn’t always the case on embedded touch screens. The built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0/BLE worked reliably in my tests. I streamed data from sensors, connected to a phone over BLE, and pushed UI updates via Wi-Fi without hiccups. For wireless IoT projects, this kind of stability is critical—and the CrowPanel delivered.
One of the biggest surprises was the integrated AI functionality. With a microphone and speaker support, I was able to experiment with voice recognition and speech synthesis. I built a prototype where I could give voice commands to control smart home lights, and the panel responded in real time with spoken confirmations. This voice-first interaction opened new possibilities, making the panel feel more like a smart assistant than a simple screen.
Another standout feature is the replaceable wireless module design. The ability to swap in modules supporting Zigbee, LoRa, Matter, Thread, nRF2401, and Wi-Fi 6 gives the CrowPanel incredible versatility. I tested the LoRa module for long-range communication, and it worked seamlessly. Knowing I can reconfigure the panel for different projects—whether it’s industrial IoT, smart agriculture, or off-grid networking—is a huge advantage. It’s worth noting that the current V1.2 version doesn’t directly support Meshtastic, but the modular design means future compatibility is possible, and for now it still handles LoRa perfectly.
The Elecrow CrowPanel Advance 7″ HMI ESP32-S3 is more than just an upgrade to the Basic Series—it feels like an entirely new class of embedded display. With its powerful processor, AI voice integration, modular wireless design, and developer-friendly ecosystem, it opens the door to applications far beyond typical hobby projects.
