Meet Meross MS120 Smart Multi-Function Hygrometer & Thermometer – A Compact Environmental Sensor with More to Tell
I appreciate smart home devices that help me understand something useful about my surroundings, especially when they make that information accessible without demanding constant attention. The Meross MS120 Smart Multi-Function Hygrometer & Thermometer fits that idea well, combining a readable display with environmental monitoring that goes beyond the usual temperature and humidity pairing. It brings dew point, absolute humidity, and vapor pressure deficit into the picture, with app controls that give those additional readings a practical purpose. What interests me most is the balance between simplicity and depth. I can glance at the device for the essentials, while the Meross Android app provides a more detailed view, configurable alerts, and access to historical information. Paired with the MSH450 Pro Hub, the MS120 also becomes part of a wider smart home system, allowing environmental changes to inform notifications and compatible automations. That combination makes it an interesting little device for anyone who wants to understand their living space more clearly.

Inside the package are the MS120 sensor, a replaceable CR123A battery, a battery compartment opener, and the user manual. I appreciate the inclusion of the opener because it gives battery access a dedicated tool, something worth keeping with the documentation for future replacements. For me, the useful part of getting started is understanding how the sensor should settle into its surroundings. Meross recommends allowing approximately fifteen to twenty minutes before taking the initial readings as representative of the environment. That is a sensible detail: handling a temperature sensor and moving it between spaces can influence what it reports initially. I would give it time in its intended position before deciding on alert thresholds or comparing its readings with another device. The instructions also draw attention to the battery compartment gasket and the importance of closing the cover properly. It is a small maintenance detail, but one that matters whenever the battery is replaced.

My main interest in a device like the MS120 is how easily it turns environmental data into useful information. Temperature and relative humidity remain the figures I would check most frequently, and having them available directly on the display makes the sensor useful even when my phone is elsewhere. The readings captured during my initial app session were around 25.3°C and 47.1% relative humidity, accompanied by 11.0 g/m³ absolute humidity, a 13.0°C dew point, and a VPD value of 1.7 kPa. Those figures provide a useful snapshot of the monitored space, although they are not an independent accuracy test. I find the additional measurements particularly interesting because they offer different ways of interpreting the same environment. Absolute humidity gives me another perspective on moisture levels when temperature changes, while dew point helps put condensation concerns into context. VPD adds an option that may be particularly useful to people monitoring growing conditions. I like having that extra depth available without needing to make every measurement part of my daily routine. Meross specifies temperature accuracy of up to ±0.2°C and humidity accuracy of up to ±2% RH, with accuracy varying across the measurement range. I would treat these as manufacturer specifications rather than assume that a plausible room reading confirms them. For everyday use, my priority would be consistent monitoring in a representative location, where I can follow changes without direct sunlight or nearby heat sources distorting the picture. The hub connection gives those changes another purpose. A temperature or humidity condition can become the starting point for a compatible automation, such as operating a humidifier through a suitable smart device. That is where I see the strongest long-term appeal: using the readings to support a routine that responds to the room.

With dimensions of 31.5 × 29.5 × 85 mm, the MS120 is small enough to accommodate in places where a larger environmental monitor would feel intrusive. I appreciate that compactness because placement should be guided by what I want to measure, and a smaller device gives me more flexibility. The replaceable battery is another practical design decision. For a sensor intended to remain in service over several years, I value being able to renew its power source and continue using it. The battery cover and its gasket deserve care during maintenance, but the overall arrangement is straightforward.

What I like about the MS120’s design is the emphasis on readability. The 1.9-inch display gives the main readings enough prominence to make a quick check worthwhile, while the compact white enclosure is easy to accommodate alongside everyday household objects. For my own use, temperature and relative humidity make the most natural default combination. They answer the questions I am most likely to have when walking past the device, while the app offers access to the additional measurements and a display parameter setting for tailoring what appears on the sensor. I also appreciate the presence of a physical button for direct interaction. The manual describes a short press for muting or stopping an alarm, with related behavior configurable through the app. Being able to respond at the device itself is useful when an alert sounds nearby. The overall design suits the role well: it keeps the information prominent and gives the hardware a modest footprint. That matters more to me here than decorative touches.

The MS120 runs on a single replaceable CR123A battery, with Meross advertising up to three years of operation. That is an appealing target for a device intended to monitor continuously, particularly when it may be placed somewhere I do not check physically every day. I would regard three years as an estimated maximum rather than a result established by this review. Actual endurance will depend on operating conditions and usage, including how frequently audible alerts are triggered. The Android app showed a full battery during the initial session, which provides a starting point for monitoring consumption over time. What I value most is the low-maintenance approach. Bluetooth Low Energy connectivity and a replaceable power source suit a small environmental sensor, and the app’s battery status makes it easier to keep track of when attention is needed.

The Meross MS120 appeals to me because it combines an uncomplicated everyday display with a surprisingly flexible app experience. I like being able to keep the basic readings accessible while having additional measurements, configurable alerts, calibration, and history export available when I want to look more closely. Its strongest qualities are practical ones: a compact body, a replaceable battery, useful control over notifications, and a clear role within a Meross hub-based setup. The environmental-protection documentation needs clarification, and battery endurance remains a long-term question, but the available hardware and software features make a convincing case for indoor monitoring. For my own smart home, the attraction is having a better understanding of the spaces I use every day. The MS120 gives that information an accessible display, a useful place in the app, and the potential to guide compatible devices toward more responsive everyday routines.

Meross Android application
The Meross Android app is where the MS120 becomes more interesting to me. Its device page separates current readings from history and presents the environmental measurements in individual cards, making the information easy to work through without crowding everything into one view. I particularly like the ability to reorder the measurements with a long press and drag. That small adjustment makes the interface more personal: I would keep temperature and relative humidity near the top for general room monitoring, while someone focused on plants might prefer quicker access to VPD. The last-reading timestamp is also useful because it gives context to the displayed values. The settings offer a good amount of control over how the sensor fits into a home. Device naming and room assignment help keep multiple sensors organized, while temperature units and display parameters let me tailor the presentation. My sample’s settings showed firmware version 1.0.11, with the linked smart hub and user manual accessible from the same area. The alert configuration is one of the stronger parts of the interface. Beyond temperature and relative humidity, it includes options for absolute humidity, dew point, VPD, and change rate. I appreciate being able to choose which conditions deserve attention, because an environmental monitor becomes much more useful when its alerts reflect the space and purpose I have in mind. The app also explains how those alerts are delivered: the buzzer depends on sound settings, while phone notifications require notifications to be enabled and the device to be connected to a hub. Separate sound controls and a Do Not Disturb option provide useful flexibility. Meross lists the alarm volume at 100 dB, although I would not infer measured loudness or whole-home audibility from that specification alone. Calibration and history export are welcome additions. I would use calibration only with a trustworthy reference, but having the option gives the sensor more flexibility. Export is particularly appealing because it allows recorded information to become part of a broader comparison, such as examining room conditions before and after a change to heating or ventilation. Meross advertises up to 120 days of local data storage and up to two years in the cloud. For me, that makes historical monitoring one of the device’s most worthwhile capabilities: a single reading answers an immediate question, while a longer record can reveal recurring patterns. The MSH450 Pro Hub supports the MS120’s connected features and brings newer Bluetooth sensors together with compatible existing 433 MHz accessories. Its Matter integration also offers a route into supported smart home platforms. I would still check which sensor readings and functions a particular platform exposes, especially when planning automations around the more specialized environmental measurements.
