Meet Ipega PG-P5042 Battery Pack – Practical Extra Power with Real-Time Battery Monitoring
The PlayStation 5 DualSense is one of the most sophisticated controllers available today, but its advanced haptics, adaptive triggers, integrated speaker and wireless connectivity inevitably place considerable demand on its internal battery. For players who regularly spend several hours gaming, connecting a charging cable or interrupting a session to recharge the controller can quickly become inconvenient. The Ipega Battery Pack with LED Display, model PG-P5042, offers a straightforward alternative. Designed to attach directly to a standard PS5 DualSense controller, while also supporting the DualSense Edge through an included EVA spacer, this compact accessory provides an additional 2000mAh battery and a numerical LED display showing its remaining charge. Rather than trying to reinvent the controller-charging category, Ipega has focused on the features that matter most: simple installation, visible battery information, USB-C charging and automatic power management. After installing and using it with my DualSense controller, I found it to be a practical accessory for extending gaming sessions without permanently tethering the controller to a cable.
The Ipega Battery Pack arrives in a relatively compact retail box finished in the familiar blue-and-white color scheme associated with PlayStation accessories. The front clearly presents the shape of the battery pack, its compatibility with the PS5 controller, the 2000mAh capacity and the inclusion of an LED percentage display. The packaging is functional rather than luxurious, but it communicates the product’s purpose effectively. Installation illustrations are printed on one side, while the reverse lists the main features and shows the battery pack attached to both a standard DualSense and a DualSense Edge controller. Inside the box, I found the Ipega battery pack, an EVA foam spacer, a short USB-A-to-USB-C charging cable and the printed user manual. The EVA component may initially look like a simple protective insert, but it serves an important purpose: it compensates for the different rear profile of the DualSense Edge and helps the battery pack sit more securely against that controller. Everything required to install and recharge the accessory is included, although owners of modern USB-C chargers may prefer to use their own longer cable rather than the short supplied one.
Installation on the standard DualSense is remarkably simple. The battery pack’s integrated USB-C connector is aligned with the controller’s charging port and then carefully inserted. The curved upper section rests against the back of the controller, giving the accessory additional support instead of leaving its entire weight suspended from the USB-C connector. Once attached, a short press of the button below the display activates the battery pack and begins charging the controller. The DualSense responds with its familiar orange pulsing light, confirming that it is receiving power. At the same time, the front display shows the remaining battery percentage in large illuminated digits. This numerical readout is one of the product’s most useful features. Many compact battery accessories rely on three or four indicator LEDs, leaving the user to estimate how much capacity remains. The Ipega unit instead provides a much clearer percentage reading, making it easier to decide whether the pack needs to be recharged before a longer gaming session. The display automatically turns off after approximately 30 seconds, preventing it from becoming distracting and conserving a small amount of power. Pressing the button again wakes the screen and shows the current charge level. Holding the button for around two seconds manually stops the charging process, which is useful when I want to preserve the battery pack for later rather than continuously topping up the controller. The pack does add some weight and physical volume to the DualSense, as any 2000mAh external battery inevitably will. However, its central position keeps the additional mass reasonably balanced. It does not obstruct the analogue sticks, triggers, shoulder buttons, headset port or the controller’s primary grip areas. I could still hold the controller naturally, although players with smaller hands may notice the battery pack touching their middle fingers depending on their grip. The effect is not severe, but this is an accessory intended primarily for longer runtime rather than completely invisible integration.
The Ipega Battery Pack uses a predominantly white plastic housing that visually complements the standard white DualSense. Its front panel is finished in glossy black, creating a clear contrast around the illuminated Ipega logo, numerical percentage indicator and physical power button. The construction feels appropriate for an affordable gaming accessory. The housing is lightweight but sufficiently rigid, with no obvious loose sections or unnecessary moving parts. The curved upper surface follows the rear contour of the controller and helps distribute pressure more effectively once installed. The integrated USB-C plug appears firmly mounted, although it should still be handled carefully. As with any accessory that connects directly to a controller port, it is advisable to align the connector correctly and avoid forcing it into place. The battery pack should also be removed by holding its body rather than pulling it sideways, which could place unnecessary stress on both the accessory and the controller’s USB-C port. Ipega states that the pack incorporates overcharge protection, overcurrent protection and automatic shutdown at high temperatures. These internal safeguards are particularly important for an accessory designed to remain attached to a controller while both devices are charging. The manual also advises charging the pack at least once every three months during extended storage to reduce the risk of deep battery discharge.
The design is clearly built around function. The battery body extends behind and below the DualSense, while the display remains visible from the front when the controller is placed on a desk. This makes it possible to check the remaining capacity without removing the accessory or turning the controller around. The bright numerical display is easy to read in both daylight and darker gaming environments. In a dim room, it is particularly prominent, but the automatic 30-second timeout prevents the illuminated panel from remaining constantly visible during play. The button is positioned directly beneath the percentage display and is easy to locate. A short press activates charging or displays the remaining battery level, while a long press stops power delivery. This single-button interface is intuitive and avoids unnecessary controls. Compatibility with both the standard DualSense and the DualSense Edge broadens the product’s usefulness. Standard DualSense users can connect the pack directly, while DualSense Edge owners must first position the included EVA pad on the battery pack before installation. The spacer provides the additional thickness needed to accommodate the Edge controller’s different rear shape. Visually, the accessory integrates best with the white DualSense. It can still be used with other controller colors, but the white housing will naturally stand out more against darker or more vibrant editions.
The Ipega PG-P5042 contains a 2000mAh rechargeable battery. According to the manufacturer’s specifications, it provides approximately four to eight hours of additional operating time, depending on controller settings and game behavior. Features such as strong haptic feedback, frequent adaptive-trigger resistance, speaker usage and headset connectivity can all influence the final result. The quoted range is realistic for this type of accessory, but it should be treated as an estimate rather than a guaranteed figure. A game that makes aggressive use of the DualSense’s advanced functions will consume energy more quickly than a title relying primarily on conventional vibration and button inputs. The pack accepts a 5V input at up to 1.2A and requires approximately three hours for a complete recharge. Charging is performed through its USB-C input using the supplied cable or another compatible cable. When the battery pack is charged separately, the display flashes and shows the current percentage. Once it reaches full capacity, the screen shows 100, stops flashing and eventually turns off. The accessory can also be charged while attached to the controller. In this configuration, power is directed to the DualSense first. After the controller is fully charged, the battery pack begins replenishing its own internal cell. This priority-based system is sensible because it ensures that the controller becomes usable as quickly as possible. The pack automatically stops supplying power when the DualSense is fully charged. It also stops operating when its own capacity reaches zero, with the display briefly showing 0 before switching off. These automated behaviors make daily use largely maintenance-free. One limitation is that the battery pack does not increase the controller’s internal battery capacity in a seamless software-integrated way. The PS5 still monitors the controller’s own battery, while the Ipega pack operates as an external charging source. The numerical display therefore represents the remaining capacity of the Ipega accessory, not the combined energy level of the battery pack and controller.
The Ipega Battery Pack with LED Display is a practical solution to one of the DualSense controller’s most familiar limitations. Its 2000mAh capacity can provide several additional hours of wireless play, while the numerical LED display removes much of the uncertainty associated with conventional multi-light battery indicators. Installation is straightforward, operation requires only a single button, and the automatic charging controls allow the accessory to function without constant supervision. Compatibility with both the standard DualSense and DualSense Edge is another advantage, although Edge owners must use the included EVA spacer. The battery pack inevitably makes the controller slightly heavier and bulkier, and players who prioritize the original DualSense ergonomics above everything else may prefer a charging dock or a second controller. For longer gaming sessions, travel or situations where a power cable would be inconvenient, however, the trade-off is reasonable. Its combination of visible battery information, USB-C charging, automatic shutoff and useful additional runtime makes the Ipega PG-P5042 a well-considered accessory rather than a simple emergency power source. It does not fundamentally transform the DualSense, but it addresses a genuine everyday problem with an uncomplicated and effective design.
