Meet TrustOnX TOX5 Lite Android TV Box – A Compact Media Player Powered by Amlogic S905X5M
The TrustOnX TOX5 Lite is a compact Android 14 media player designed for users who want an affordable and straightforward way to add streaming applications, IPTV services, local media playback and basic smart functionality to almost any television or HDMI-equipped display. It is also positioned as a practical solution for digital signage, hotel information systems, retail screens and office installations where a small, energy-efficient Android device can remain permanently connected behind a display. At the heart of the TOX5 Lite is the relatively modern Amlogic S905X5M platform, combining four ARM Cortex-A55 processor cores with Mali-G31 MP2 graphics and hardware-assisted decoding for contemporary video formats. The device is equipped with 2GB of DDR4 memory, 32GB of eMMC storage, dual-band Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 4.1 and Gigabit Ethernet. These specifications clearly place the TOX5 Lite in the entry-level category, but the hardware has been selected with practical media playback rather than demanding gaming or desktop-style multitasking in mind. After using it as part of a conventional living-room entertainment setup, I found that its strongest qualities are its compact construction, uncomplicated operation and useful combination of wired and wireless connectivity.
The TrustOnX TOX5 Lite arrives in a relatively small retail box decorated with blue circuit-pattern graphics and the familiar TOX branding. The packaging is simple rather than luxurious, which is entirely appropriate for an affordable media player, but everything inside is arranged securely and the package includes the essential accessories needed to begin using the device immediately. Inside the box, I found the TOX5 Lite media player, its infrared remote control, an HDMI cable, a power adapter, a USB Type-C power cable and a printed Android TV user manual. Including an HDMI cable is particularly convenient because it removes the need to purchase an additional accessory before connecting the box to a television or monitor. The supplied remote control is a conventional infrared model with navigation controls, playback buttons, a numeric keypad and several television-control shortcuts. The remote is functional and familiar, although text entry and extensive application navigation are naturally faster with a wireless keyboard, an air mouse or another compatible USB or Bluetooth accessory. For normal IPTV use, browsing local files and controlling video playback, however, the supplied remote performs its role adequately.
The TOX5 Lite has a restrained black enclosure with rounded corners, a matte finish and a large number of ventilation openings across the top and side panels. It does not attempt to look like a premium aluminium media player, but its compact plastic chassis is practical, lightweight and discreet enough to fit into almost any entertainment system. With official dimensions of approximately 110 × 62 × 22mm and a net weight of around 90 grams, the player occupies very little space. It can sit beside a television, underneath a monitor or behind a commercial display without becoming visually intrusive. The extensive ventilation pattern is one of the most noticeable elements of the design. Rather than hiding the cooling openings underneath the enclosure, TrustOnX has distributed them across several surfaces to encourage passive airflow around the internal components. The Amlogic S905X5M is an efficient processor, so this type of fanless construction is suitable for normal media playback and also means that the box operates silently. On the front is a configurable LED panel that can display the time and additional status information. This is a useful detail that distinguishes the TOX5 Lite from many low-cost Android boxes with only a basic power indicator. The display is bright enough to read from a normal seating distance, while the available settings allow its behaviour to be adjusted according to the installation. The enclosure also includes two full-size USB connections, a TF card slot, HDMI output, RJ45 Ethernet and USB Type-C power input. Documentation supplied for different product revisions appears to describe the USB configuration differently, but the important practical point is that the TOX5 Lite provides two full-size USB ports for accessories and external storage.
The TOX5 Lite runs Android 14, giving it a more recent software foundation than many inexpensive media players that continue to ship with older Android versions. The interface uses a conventional large-screen launcher with direct access to video, applications, music, games and local files. Google Play support makes it possible to install compatible streaming applications, media players, IPTV clients, file managers and utilities directly on the device. Applications can also be installed manually through APK packages, which is valuable for specialist IPTV platforms, business applications or software that is not distributed through the standard store. The interface is reasonably easy to understand and requires little adjustment for anyone who has previously used an Android TV box. The familiar Android settings menus provide access to networking, applications, connected accessories, storage and display configuration. It is important to distinguish this type of open Android media player from a fully certified Google TV streaming device. Application availability and maximum streaming resolution can depend on individual service requirements, DRM support and certification. Users purchasing the TOX5 Lite primarily for subscription platforms such as Netflix, Prime Video or other protected services should therefore confirm the supported playback resolution for each application. For IPTV, local media, browser-based content, DLNA playback and applications without restrictive certification requirements, the open Android environment is considerably more flexible. In my real-world Wi-Fi speed test, the TrustOnX TOX5 Lite achieved an impressive 311Mbps download speed and 273Mbps upload speed. These results demonstrate a fast and stable wireless connection, providing more than enough bandwidth for 4K streaming, IPTV, large downloads, online video and network-based media playback. Performance will naturally vary depending on the router, distance and local network conditions, but the tested Wi-Fi connection proved highly capable for everyday entertainment. BTW, you can download the firmware version TOX5_5.1.260616 from here.
The Amlogic S905X5M is a quad-core processor based on ARM Cortex-A55 CPU cores, operating at up to 2.0GHz. Graphics are handled by the Mali-G31 MP2 GPU. This is not a high-performance platform intended for sophisticated Android gaming, but it is an efficient system-on-chip developed primarily for streaming boxes, media decoding and compact smart-display products. During everyday use, the interface remained sufficiently responsive for moving between applications, navigating IPTV menus, opening local files and controlling video playback. Applications do not open with the instantaneous response of a premium streaming device, but the overall experience is appropriate for the price and hardware category. The 2GB of DDR4 RAM is adequate for running a media application and a small number of background services. It becomes more restrictive when several applications are kept open or when using heavy web pages and unusually demanding software. Android may reload applications more frequently than it would on a box equipped with 4GB of memory. For this reason, I approached the TOX5 Lite as a dedicated media player rather than a miniature computer. Used for one primary task at a time—streaming video, playing IPTV channels, browsing a local media library or running a digital-signage application—it provides a balanced experience. The 32GB of eMMC storage offers enough room for the operating system and a practical collection of streaming, IPTV and utility applications. Part of that capacity is reserved by Android, so users with large offline media collections will want to connect a USB drive, network storage or a TF card.
Watching online video through the HBO Max and Prime Video apps was a smooth and enjoyable experience on the TrustOnX TOX5 Lite. Both applications loaded quickly, their interfaces remained responsive while browsing large content libraries, and films and series started without lengthy delays. During my testing, playback remained fluid and stable, with clear image reproduction, synchronized audio and no noticeable buffering, demonstrating that the media player is well suited to relaxed everyday streaming. Streaming live television through the Focus+ and Digi Online apps was equally reliable on the TrustOnX TOX5 Lite. Both applications opened quickly, channel lists and programme sections remained responsive, and switching between live TV stations required only short loading times. During my testing, broadcasts played smoothly with clear video, synchronized audio and no noticeable buffering, making the device a practical choice for everyday online television viewing. Watching 4K content on YouTube was a consistently smooth and visually impressive experience on the TrustOnX TOX5 Lite. Videos loaded quickly and played without noticeable buffering, frame drops or audio-sync problems, while detailed textures, vivid colours and fluid motion looked excellent on the large television. This confirmed that the Amlogic S905X5M platform handles everyday 4K YouTube streaming reliably.
Playing Beach Buggy Racing and Hungry Shark with a Homatics Bluetooth gamepad was a surprisingly enjoyable experience on the TrustOnX TOX5 Lite. The controller paired quickly, remained connected and delivered responsive controls without distracting input delay. Both games loaded correctly and ran smoothly, with colourful graphics and stable gameplay on the large television screen. Although the device is not intended for demanding Android gaming, it performs very well with casual and controller-compatible titles.
Two full-size USB ports make it possible to connect flash drives, external storage and input accessories without immediately requiring a hub. The TF card slot provides another convenient option for carrying a small local media library or transferring content between devices. For larger collections, network playback is generally the better solution. The TOX5 Lite supports DLNA and can access compatible network shares through suitable Android applications. It can therefore be integrated with a NAS, desktop computer or home media server rather than relying entirely on its internal 32GB storage. Miracast support can be used for compatible wireless-display scenarios, although performance depends heavily on the transmitting device, network environment and implementation. For reliable long-form video playback, I still prefer native applications, wired networking or direct access to stored files.
Connectivity is one of the stronger aspects of the TOX5 Lite. Dual-band Wi-Fi 5 supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks. The 2.4GHz band provides greater range, while 5GHz is generally preferable for higher-bitrate streaming when the media player is located reasonably close to the router. The inclusion of Gigabit Ethernet is particularly welcome. Many inexpensive Android boxes are limited to 100Mbps Ethernet even when their wireless specifications appear more modern. A Gigabit interface offers considerably more headroom for large local video files, network storage and stable commercial installations. Real-world network speed will depend on the internal implementation, storage performance, router and software, but the wired connection remains the most dependable option for fixed installations. During longer-term use, I preferred Ethernet whenever the box remained permanently connected to the same television. Wi-Fi was more convenient for temporary setups or rooms without accessible network cabling. Bluetooth 4.1 is an older standard, but it remains useful for connecting basic controllers, keyboards, mice, speakers and other compatible accessories. Users requiring the newest Bluetooth audio features or the lowest possible latency should keep the age of this implementation in mind.
Over an extended period of regular use, the TOX5 Lite proved most convincing when assigned a clearly defined role. I used it primarily for media playback, IPTV applications and access to locally stored video rather than trying to turn it into a full desktop replacement. The fanless design meant that it remained completely silent, an important advantage in a bedroom, hotel room or quiet office. Its small footprint also made it easy to leave permanently installed without adding unnecessary clutter around the television. The Android 14 operating system provides a modern application environment, while the combination of Ethernet, Wi-Fi, USB and expandable storage offers enough flexibility for a wide range of installations. I also appreciated the front display because it provides useful visual confirmation that the box is active without requiring the television to be turned on. The principal limitation remains the 2GB of RAM. This capacity is sufficient for straightforward media playback but does not encourage extensive multitasking. Performance is most consistent when unnecessary background applications are closed and the device is treated as a dedicated playback platform. The 32GB storage configuration is similarly practical rather than generous. It provides much more flexibility than an 8GB or 16GB box, but users installing many applications or downloading offline content will still need external or network storage. I would also recommend using a compact wireless keyboard or air mouse for frequent browser use, account configuration and text entry. The bundled remote is perfectly serviceable for playback and basic navigation, but Android applications designed around touch input can occasionally be awkward with directional controls alone.
The TrustOnX TOX5 Lite is a compact and sensibly equipped Android 14 media player that focuses on the functions most users actually require: IPTV, streaming applications, 4K local playback, network media access and straightforward connectivity. Its Amlogic S905X5M processor provides modern video-decoding capabilities, including support for AV1, H.265, VP9 and 4K60 playback. Gigabit Ethernet is a notable advantage for local network streaming, while dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, two USB ports and TF card expansion give the box considerably more flexibility than a basic streaming stick. The 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage establish clear limits. This is not the ideal device for heavy multitasking, advanced gaming or users who expect the polished performance of a premium certified Google TV platform. Subscription streaming quality may also depend on the certification and DRM requirements of each service. Within its intended role, however, the TOX5 Lite is a practical and versatile device. I found it particularly suitable as an affordable IPTV and local-media player, but its small enclosure, silent operation and Android application support also make it an interesting option for hotel displays, retail screens and simple digital-signage installations. For users who understand the distinction between an open Android media box and a premium certified streaming platform, the TrustOnX TOX5 Lite delivers a useful combination of modern software, efficient hardware and practical connectivity in an exceptionally compact format.
