Meet the new WANBO Cube 1 Projector – A Truly Portable Projector Designed for Real Life
When testing compact projectors, I always approach them with a certain level of caution, as portability often comes at the expense of usability, image quality, or software stability. The WANBO Cube 1, however, quickly proved that it was designed with a very different philosophy in mind. Rather than being a stripped-down compromise, this projector positions itself as a fully integrated smart entertainment device, combining extreme portability, intelligent projection mechanics, and a complete Android TV ecosystem into a form factor that genuinely fits in the palm of your hand. After spending several days using the Cube 1 across different rooms, projection angles, and use cases, it became clear that this is not merely a “small projector,” but a thoughtfully engineered solution for flexible, everyday cinematic viewing.
The unboxing experience reflects the Cube 1’s modern and refined character. The packaging is compact and well-organized, with the projector securely positioned and presented as the centerpiece of the experience. As soon as I lifted the Cube 1 from the box, its lightweight construction and soft-touch exterior immediately stood out, conveying a sense of modern design rather than utilitarian hardware. Despite weighing just 0.9 kg, the projector feels solid and well-assembled, with no creaking or loose elements. Everything about the initial interaction suggests a product designed to be handled frequently, moved effortlessly, and integrated seamlessly into daily life.
Visually, the WANBO Cube 1 embraces a clean, contemporary aesthetic, finished in Alpine White, which allows it to blend naturally into modern living spaces without drawing unnecessary attention. Its compact, cube-like silhouette feels deliberate rather than restrictive, making it equally suitable for a living room shelf, bedside table, or travel bag. The standout design element is undoubtedly the 360° gimbal base, which allows the projection module to rotate smoothly in virtually any direction, including upward toward the ceiling. In daily use, this flexibility completely changes how and where the projector can be used, enabling comfortable viewing from a bed, sofa, or unconventional placement without requiring additional mounts or stands. The gimbal feels sturdy and well-damped, holding its position reliably once adjusted.
One of the most satisfying aspects of using the Cube 1 is how quickly it transitions from being powered on to delivering a perfectly aligned image. The remote-controlled electric focus allows precise sharpness adjustments without ever touching the projector, while the automatic vertical keystone correction, combined with 4-point manual keystone, ensures that even angled or off-center placements result in a clean, rectangular image. During testing, I was able to achieve a consistently sharp and well-aligned picture within seconds, even when placing the projector on uneven surfaces or projecting at unconventional angles. The ability to project images ranging from 40 to 110 inches adds to its versatility, making it suitable for both intimate viewing and larger shared experiences.
The WANBO Cube 1 delivers a native resolution of 1280 × 720 pixels, which, when paired with its 200 ANSI lumens brightness, produces a surprisingly clear and vibrant image within its intended usage scenarios. In dimly lit rooms, colors appear lively and well-balanced, while text and interface elements remain sharp and readable. While it is not designed to compete with high-lumen home theater projectors, the Cube 1 excels in exactly the environments it targets, offering a comfortable and immersive viewing experience for movies, series, casual gaming, and presentations without demanding complete darkness.
Running Android TV 11, the Cube 1 immediately feels like a complete entertainment hub rather than a projector that relies on external devices. Access to over 7,000 apps through the Google Play Store, including Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, and many others, is seamless and stable, thanks in part to Widevine L1 certification, which ensures high-quality streaming and secure playback. Navigation feels fluid and responsive, and the inclusion of Google Assistant enables hands-free voice control, allowing content searches, app launches, and system commands to be executed naturally. Screen casting from smartphones, tablets, or laptops works smoothly, making it easy to share content or extend productivity onto a larger display.
Despite its small size, the Cube 1 houses an integrated 8W speaker that delivers sound with surprising depth and clarity. Dialogue remains clear, and overall audio balance feels well-tuned for movies and streaming content, eliminating the immediate need for external speakers in most casual viewing scenarios. Equally impressive is the projector’s quiet operation, with fan noise remaining below 28 dB, ensuring that audio immersion is not disrupted even during quieter scenes. Bluetooth 5.0 support further expands flexibility by allowing wireless headphones or external speakers to be paired effortlessly.
In everyday use, the Cube 1 proves itself as a versatile connectivity hub. Dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) ensures stable streaming performance, while HDMI and USB ports allow easy connection to laptops, gaming consoles, or external storage devices. This flexibility makes the projector equally suitable for entertainment, casual gaming, and professional presentations.
Watching Geri’s Game and For the Birds on the WANBO Cube 1 Smart Projector was a thoroughly enjoyable experience, as the HD image rendered Pixar’s expressive animation with pleasing clarity, natural colors, and smooth motion, allowing facial details, lighting nuances, and playful contrasts to shine on a large projected image, while the built-in speaker delivered clear and well-balanced sound that enhanced the charm and rhythm of both short films, resulting in a surprisingly immersive and cinematic viewing session for such a compact projector.
Streaming movies on the WANBO Cube 1 Smart Projector through Netflix, HBO Max, and SkyShowtime proved to be an impressively smooth and immersive experience, as Android TV 11 combined with Widevine L1 certification delivered stable, high-quality playback with sharp visuals, consistent brightness, and natural color reproduction across a large projected image, while fast dual-band Wi-Fi ensured quick app loading and uninterrupted streaming, and the balanced built-in speaker provided clear dialogue and well-defined sound, allowing the Cube 1 to function as a genuinely capable all-in-one home cinema solution without the need for external devices or complicated setup.
Watching live TV channels through the Digi TV and Focus+ apps on the WANBO Cube 1 Smart Projector delivered a surprisingly engaging and fluid viewing experience, as the stable Android TV platform and reliable dual-band Wi-Fi connection ensured quick channel loading and consistent streaming quality, while the large projected image enhanced the sense of presence during live broadcasts, news, and sports, complemented by clear motion handling, well-balanced colors, and a built-in speaker that reproduced dialogue and ambient sound with enough clarity and volume to make the Cube 1 feel like a compact yet fully capable live TV solution rather than a simple portable projector.
Watching 4K video content on the YouTube app with the WANBO Cube 1 Smart Projector was a surprisingly impressive experience, as the projector handled high-resolution streams with smooth playback and effective downscaling to its native HD resolution, preserving fine detail, sharp edges, and rich color depth across a large projected image, while Android TV 11 and the stable dual-band Wi-Fi connection ensured fast loading and uninterrupted viewing, allowing travel footage, nature documentaries, and cinematic clips to feel immersive and visually engaging despite the Cube 1’s compact size and portable design.
Watching video content projected directly onto the living room ceiling with the WANBO Cube 1 Smart Projector was an unexpectedly immersive and comfortable experience, as the unique 360° gimbal design allowed effortless upward projection while the automatic keystone correction and electric focus quickly delivered a sharp, well-aligned image, transforming a relaxed, laid-back viewing position into a genuinely cinematic moment, where the balanced brightness, natural colors, and quiet operation combined with clear built-in audio to create a cozy, distraction-free atmosphere that made ceiling viewing feel not like a novelty, but a practical and highly enjoyable way to consume content at home.
After extended hands-on use, the WANBO Cube 1 Android TV Smart Projector stands out as a well-balanced product that prioritizes real-world usability over exaggerated specifications. Its compact form, intelligent projection mechanics, stable Android TV platform, and surprisingly immersive audio combine to create a projector that feels genuinely practical rather than experimental. It is an ideal solution for users seeking a portable, smart, and flexible projector capable of delivering consistent image quality, effortless setup, and a complete streaming experience without additional hardware. Whether used for relaxed movie nights, casual gaming sessions, presentations, or ceiling-mounted bedroom viewing, the Cube 1 adapts naturally to the environment rather than forcing the user to adapt to it. A thoughtfully designed smart projector that proves portability and functionality can coexist without compromise.
