Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X 4G Phablet – Unboxing & Full Specs Honest Review
Xiaomi recently launched the Redmi Note 4X 4G Phablet, its latest addition to the Redmi series and projected as the best 4G budget phablet till date. We will check out how good that claim holds up in a short while.
Unboxing
You will receive your new Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X 4G Phablet completely sealed in the standard Xiaomi box. If you have requested the phablet to be factory sealed, it will be so. Do remember, doing so might mean that your device might not have global ROM since it is probably reflashing all the devices for the global ROM and leaving the factory seal untouched prevents the seller from doing so. Well, that is actually good since flashing the ROM actually voids the warranty. You will not face any difficulty with the initial setup and use the device since there is anoption for English language support. Also, you will receive the device unlocked for global usage if you are using our link. However, we will come back to that shortly. The sealed device box contains 1 unit Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X 4G Phablet, 1 unit micro-USB cable, 1 unit charger adaptor (5V, 2Amp), 1 piece SIM card tray opener, and 1 user manual. Even though the charger is not the fast charger, the Redmi Note 4X do support fast charging and you may use the Xiaomi fast charger with the device.
First look
The Redmi Note 4X have an impressive smart and stylish look to it. I ordered the Champagne color model, which I personally loved among all the available choices. However, there are other color variations available – Black, Silver Grey, Pink, Light Green, and of course, Champagne. Here is a preview of the different color choices. The device has a metal casing on the back. However, the top and bottom are made of plastic. There is plastic on the side of the device as well where the metal casing meets the front face. However, the device certainly is strong and feels good to hold. The side buttons are all made of metal, which is a great thing since they are used most often. The buttons also do not move or budge on the sides. Both power and sound rocker buttons are present on the left side while the right side has the hybrid SIM card tray. The camera and fingerprint scanner are located on the back with the LED flash located between the two. The camera is set about half a millimeter within the body, which prevents the lens cover from getting scratched. The microphone and speakers are set at the bottom on either side of the micro-USB 2.0 slot. Top side houses the 3.5mm audio jack and a secondary microphone. On the front, the screen comes with a screen guard. You may not remove it if you do not have a replacement with you right at the moment. It is a 5.5” FHD (1920X1080) capacitive 2.5D Arc touchscreen. On the bottom are the touch buttons for home, recent apps, and back key. Towards the top, there is the microphone and the proximity sensor and the front camera.
Specifications
Now, let’s take a look at what’s under the hood of the new Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X. Beginning with the SIM card slot, it is a hybrid slot where you can have 1 micro and 1 nano SIM. It supports a micro SD card up to 128 GB but you will have to do away with the nano SIM in that case. The device comes in three variations, 2GB RAM with 32GB ROM, 3GB RAM with 32GB ROM, and 4GB RAM with 64GB ROM. There is enough internal memory for you not to use the memory card slot at all. At a budget price, that is quite a good amount of memory that has been included in it. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625, 2GHz octa-core processor, along with Adreno 506 GPU. It is a powerful combination; however, if you are comparing with the top range Smartdevices, you will probably find a slight delay in the processing speed. That is totally acceptable give the budget price, and the lag is just by about half a second.
The device runs on Android 6.0 and has MiUi 8.1.10. However, you will probably receive an update for the MiUi right after starting the device. A point to note, please do not flash the device ROM and try to update the Android version unless you get a normal update from the manufacturer itself. Flashing will void the warranty. The battery capacity is 4100 mAh and its built-in the device. It will give you enough life to go on for long even with heavy usage.
Regarding connectivity options, it has 3G, 4G, GSM, WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS connectivity. The back camera is 13MP AF with LED flash and the front camera is a 5MP shooter. Of course, you can shoot both still pictures and videos. The flashlight option is also present. Additional sensors include ambient light sensor, gravity, gyroscope, accelerometer, proximity sensor and infrared. You will probably never find the need to use all of the available sensors on a regular basis, but it is good to have the options if needed.

Being a budget device, it certainly provides a lot of great options and the processing speed with the memory capacity is impressive, to say the least.
