What has changed in this firmware ?
Got it working on a generic M8S+ box. Tried flashing with TWRP, at first it kept failing and said ‘This is the m8s device not the N200’. Well a bit of ‘updater-script’ editing and the flashing went through. All seems okay, wifi & ethernet working, normal operations feels a bit smoother.
The only problem that I’ve found so far is HDMI audio always starts out as disabled. Have to turn off the TV and turn it back on again to reset the HDMI audio signal. Or turn the box on first, and then the TV next. That solves problem with no audio.
FYI, the wifi chip on my particular box is AP6330, boxes with other chip (BCM4335) might not play well with this firmware. Be warned.
I have flashed this firmware with TWRP (dirty flash) and did not see any changes.
But when i have flashed this via stock recovery (clean flash) i have found that hardware acceleration is enabled for all movie players (on previous firmware this feature was working only with SPMC and stock 4K Player).
Futhermore i’ve noticed that Kodi Javis 16.1 that is installed with this version is modified and out of the box support AMlogic acceleration (Google Play version don’t support it), and Dynamic Refresh Rate Switching working without moddifing init.d.
So i recommend to flash this firmware with clean flash and not update or uninstall Kodi.
Don’t use Krypton – it has problems and there is no support for hardware acceleration for this box. My box has AP6330 chip. Hope this helps.
I flashed this firmware on my M8S+ with the toothpick method and everything seemed to be ok. The M8S+ starts up normal after the flash and everything looks normal to me. But now after the update, my box wont connect with ethernet or find anything with wifi.
I tried to do the flash of the firmware again, but when i now try to do the same procedure with the toothpick method it doesent show the update page anymore. It now keeps starting the Android start up screen.
Any idea what went wrong or what i can try to do now? Thank in advance for the help and tips!
Is it maybe because my M8S+ is not from Acemax, so now the software conflicts?
Anyone with tips, idea’s or suggestions?
@Michael
You can reboot box to recovery using root rights via app Quick Boot (or something like that); you will find it in the Play Store
Other metohods:
1. Do you have TWRP installed? Do you have backup of previous firmware? If so, then you have chance to restore box without problem.
2. If not then i suggest you to check what model exacly is your wifi hardware and download proper firmware
3. Other method is to download different firmware form this site (for M8S+) and try to flash via factory Update/Backup application – just download firmware on USB drive, plug into box, copy zip file to SD and use application to flash
4. You can also install TWRP via Rashr app and from there you can flash
Check also Freaktab site – they have a lot of information about those boxes).
(I don’t know if my M8s+ is a clone) After many tries it works! Be careful and use it only with the USB_Burning_Tool_v2.0.8 + the thootpick method
I downloaded this file several times and each tine I put the .zip file only on a memory and place it into the USB port. File is recognized and start updating but shows 2 errors
E: footer is wrong
E: Signal verification is wrong
Could you end me the right firmware?
Or haw can I fix these errors?
Brought a dead m8s + back to life. It had blue light no hdmi signal. No usb connection . No microsd detection
Tried toothpick atleast 100 times.
Solution
Shortened pins bw 8 and 9 on the nand chip sky something
Got detected by usb burning tool (light changes from blue to red)
Flashed older firmware may 5.1
Tried with via twrp
Error not for n200
Did update binary changes and voila i am on this firmware .
Thanks everyone for help n guidance
